Two records were broken by Hyde when he lowered the pool record of 32 seconds in the 40 yard backstroke dash to 29.1 seconds. He also broke another when he negotiated the 40 yard straightaway in 27.2 econds. The former record, 'held by Babcock, was 29 flat. In this second event Hyde's time is exceptionally good as it is only 1 2-5 seconds slower than te State record made by Roberts of the D. A. C. of Detroit in the local pool at the meet held in December. Babcock did the 440 yard swim 'in 7 minutes 23 2-5 seconds, clipping 2 3-5 seconds from the former record mhade by himself. Coach Drulard is pleased with the spirit shown by the swimmers and ex- pects that they will have a success- ful season, especially after swimming is recognized as a varsity sport and the consequent addition of a few aqua- tic stars of national renown. Barry Stuart turned up to practice yesterday for the second time this sea- son. It is the first time he has been. out in the last few ionths. Though out of condition. he showed good form by doing the 40 yard crawl in time which was within 1 second of the 40 yard tank record in that event. This man shows real promise as a sprin- .ter and will probably make the team if he continues to come out. t Providing the swimmers are recog- nized as varsity men the team will go to Toronto in the near future. Word has been received from Junior college of Detroit that they will be here next Saturday for a meet with the Michi- gan team in the local Y. M. C. A. It is'also possible that the freshman sophomore relay race may be run off at this time. It was to have been held between halves of the 0. S. U. football game but the placing of- boxes on the track caused it to be postponed. - At the end of the first session the sophomores were on the long end of [ a 2 to 1 score. Not until the last few minutes of play did the lits score their winning goal.
