Washington, Jan. 27.-VarIance be-
tween Republican leaders of the sen-
ate nd house on enactment of uni-
versal military trAining legislation to-
day came out into the open.
Closely following icorporation yes-
terday of a universal' training provs-
ion in the army re-organization bill
-by the senate military committee, Rej-
resentative Mondell of Wyoming, Re-
publican leader in the house, declar-
ed in an address today that leaders
of the party responsible for inaugura-
tion of such legislation would be ast
into political oblivion.
Would Need Bond Issue
The government, Representative
Mondel told the house, would be com-
pelled to spend $1,000,000,000 and to
raise the money by a bond issue to
put the universal training plan into
operation.
Senator Wadsworth, oihairman o
the military committee, yesterday es-
timated that adoption of four months
training for all youths between the
ages of 18 and 21 inclusive would en-
able such a reduction in the regular
army establishment as to cut the pre-
sent annual expediture of $1,100,000,-
000 to approximately $500,000,000.
Demand. More Offiers.
Representative Mondell estimated
that 50,000 additional officers would be
required under universal training and
that $300,000,000 would be required to
'but camps and cantonments into con-
dition and $60,000,000 would be .need-
ed to maintain them. Clothing and
equipment for each youth would fur-
ther increase the cost, he said.
Chairman Wadsworth was unable to
report the army re-organization bill to-
day but announced he wuld attempt
to do so tomorrow.

Phi Kappa Sigma took the measure
of Zeta Psi to the score of 29 to 11.
The Zeta Psi team was outweighed by
the winning aggregation but put up a
plucky fight.
Elmer Cress was, the star performer
for the Phi Kappa Sigma and Van
Boven and M. Lourie of the same
(team showed a very classy brand of
ball to the spectators. Zeta Psi was
well represented in its clever little
forward Long. He was the most con-
sistent point winner for the losing
basketeers. This victory puts the Phi
Kappa Sigma team into the semi-fin-
als. They meet Lambda Chi Alpha
at 8 o'clock Thursday night.
Randall and Loebe of the All-lit
five, playing a fast game, with the
help of their teammates were able to
defeat the civil engineers in a hard
fought contest. Adans played in the
stellar role for the losers. The score
was 11 to 7 when the final whistle
blew.
The All-engineers fell before the
business ads in a loosely played game.
Nickolson and Zimm were responsible
for the majority of the business ads'
14 points. Spalding was successful
in several. long heaves at the bas et
and covered the court remarkably
well. The final score was 14 to 9.
