This trip will serve as excellent preparation for the Conference sched- ul'e that opens soon after vacation. The Vanderbilt team is one of the best in the South and has always given the Michigan nine a good scrap. Creed Haymond, ^ tf ^ f WESBROOK 55TH IN TENNIS RANKING Walter Wesbrook, Michigan's tennis star and Conference champion in both the singles and doubles last year, has been put number 55 in the 1919 ranking. I Last year he was ranked number 30. His drop this year is due to the. fact that about 25 or 30 players that were not in competition last year were back on the court this season.1Most of these men were in or above the Michigan star's class. Of the first 10 of this year six, Johnston, Johnson, Williams, Roberts, Garland, and Washburn, were not' in the list last year. Even taking into consideration We- brook's drop in standing, he has made an advance this year as #everal of the men that were above him last year are now either below or not even ranked. In the doubles Wesbrook and his partner, R. L. James, are 28 instead. of 10, as they were in 1918. This drop is largely due to the same reason. Univer- Dr. Lovell, D.D., Ph.Ds, P.L., L.L.D. Heavyweight Champion of the Wide World I am going to send New Year's greetings to every university in the world. So let me first be- gin with Oxford, then Cambridg e and then Edinborough, and then right home to our beloved Univrsity of Michigan, to think the best and to say the best.for this lovely Athens of the West and its president, its professors, every student, every co-ed, and all of the alumni, the Michigan Daily, the Gargoyle and every person in the city found under the Yellow and the Blue.. Now I am going to claim the heavyweight championship of. t~le world in this sense. I will write a song any day, and at any hour of the day if wanted. If there is any man that has ever done that, and he can be found I am licked, but if he can't then I am the champion. One can claim chamdionship in the field of song with just as much honor, just-as much enthusiasm as the pugilistic champion. My "Good-Bye Sweetheart" is the sweetest song on earth, and the "Dickie Bird" is the clevrest. It will do :me good if you will get a copy of each. They can be procured at any music store. ' The title that I can rightly claim is, Reverend Dr. Thomas Lovell, D.D., Ph.D., P.L., and LL.D. How did I get my P.L.? 'Two letters from King George, three letters from Queen Mary, one from Queen Alexandria, -one from the Prince of Wales, and one from the Prime Minister, Lloyd George. How did I get my Ph.D.? I received that from the Detroit Alumni who mentioned my name for the President of the University of Michigan. How did I get my D.D.? Right from Jesus Christ himself, for I will preach his divinity, as one on the 24th of October, 1877, I was soundly converted. The LLD. was conferred dpon me by the Detroit Alumni at their emergency smoker that was held in that city last month.'
