"I have 'your letter dated the 6th

Detroit Athletic club defeated the
University swimming team by the
score of 40 to 10 in the local Y pool
Saturday, Dec. 13. All tank records
of the local pool were broken in the
course of the meet. Paul Roberts, for-
mer captain of the Yale swimming
team, broke the Michigan state 100
'yard breast stroke record by 5 2-5
seconds, establishing a nw state rec-
ord of the remarkable time of 1:17
.Handy Takes Three Events
Leo Handy, ex-Canadian record
holder of the 100 yard crawl, tok
first place in all three events in which
he was entered. Joe Miller of the
Detroit team won the diving contest
with the highest score ever made in
tht local tank.
A number of exhibitions were given
by the Misses Marie Curtis, Johanna
Lemone, and Betty Jones, all of whom
pleased the audience with their abil-
ity and skill. Marie Curtis swam a
60 yard crawl; and a 40 yard back
stroke.
Varsity Team Good
The showing of the University team
was highly gratifying to Coach Dru-
liard and Coach Matt Mann of the D.
A. C. Under stiff competition every
man did better than he has ever done
before. Coacih Mann said, "The Uni-
versity team is 1,000 per cent better
than it was last year. You have some
excellent material which should de-
velop into a powerful team. If I had
not had several of my champions'
along the score would be entirely dif-
ferent." Paul Roberts and Leo Han-
dy were equally complimentary in
-their views of the student team.
