The vic- tim of these false impressions usually is Carey Brent, an impulsive young girl with good intentions. \After en- gaging a man whom she identifies as an escaped convict for her chauffer in order to reform him, she attempts to stop Ralph Seward from fascinatings her young stepmother, and thus caus- ing unhappiness for her father. Reversing her former attitude to- ward Seward, she abandons the saucy manner in which she had been treating him for one more flattering to him. Ifer stepmother notices this intimacy and warns her to keep away from Se- ward. How her good intentions per- sist after this incident, which she thinks is the result of jealousy, forms ,the ending of the story.
