MICHIGAN NAVY BEANS NOW
DOM)INATING ENTIRE MARKET

Motion picture drama built about the,
University of Michigan as a setting,
with a Michigan student as author, and
a star professional cast headed by
Olive Thomas in the various roles, will
be, realized within a few months in
"Red Pepper," written by Merle John-
son, ex-'21, and now being filmed by
the Selznick corporation.
A New Type of Play
"Red Pepper" is to be the first of a
series of a new type of play which
Johnson will write. The first one is'
built around Miss Thomas in a setting
of a school called "U. of M." Johnson,
with a staff of camera men, was in Ann,
Arbor at the time of the Minnesota
game. The block "M" and the crowds
at the game were filmed, as well as the
Fall games.
The studio work of the picture Is
now being completed in New York. It
is planned to take the remaining
scenes in Ann Arbor in the spring.
The whole idea of the use of the cam-
pus is that the proper mid-western
college atmosphere may be secured for
the picture, rather than the unreal sort
of wndergraduate life usually found in
the movies.
Johnson has had the opportunity of
seeing several of the scenes which!
wete taken here run off in the project-
ing room, and reports that the picture
is turning out well.
