'Red Feather' Is
T-ise Dramatic Step,
"Red Feather" is but the fist of a
number of such operas which it is hop-
ed to produce at Michigan, according
to officials in charge of the produc-
tion. There has been for some time,
it was stated, a feeling that there
was a place at MNichigan for. another,
opera production which would incl de
not only the students but the faculty
and the School of Music.'r
It was with this fact in view that,
at-'& faculty meeting where the ques-
tion of Michigan dranatics was beingr
discussed, it was suggested that some;
standard opera which would offer op-
portunities for both faculty and stu-
dents to appear, should be staged, and
"Red Feather" was chosen as the first.
of these. It was distinctly understood
that this was in no way, to take then
place of the Union opera.r
"Ied Feather" is in ho sense an ex-
periment. ,It has been successfully
staged in New York and other eastern
cities._
In that numerous of the principals
are from the School of Music and have
made .names for themselves on the1
concert stage, while the students in.7
the cast have shown exceptional tal-
ent, Mr. E. Mortimer Shuter feels Vat1
he can promise much for" °R6
Feather,"
A special symphony orchestra of 30
pieces is 'now being drilled for the
opera, under the direction of Prof.
Earl V. Moore.
SATURDAY'S WIND STORM
CAUSES MINOR DAMAGES
(Continued from Page One)
ly wiped out is false. Although the
town was in total. darlgness until after
11 o'clock the greatest damage was
*done when a piece of the opera house
roof, 30 feet in length, was hurled
down on the occupants ,of a Ford
standing in front of the building, in-
juring ohe man whose name it was
impossible to ascertain.
At the time of the cyclone a few
years ago Ann Arlor also escaped
with practically no fnjury. William J.
Hussey, professor of astronomy ,and
director of the observatory, when ask-
ed for his explanation that both of
the storms had not hit Ann Arbor, re-
marked that he felt that it was simply
an accident.
