The winner of Satur- day's game a.t Columbus will be en- titled to the undisputed championship of the Big Ten. That the Columbus contest will be a scrap from start to finish isa fore- gone conclusion. The Ohio team have been conceded the best chance of win- ring the Conference title ever since its decisive defeat of the Wolverine eleven a month ago. The . difficulty which the Buckeye aggregation found in subduing the Badgers last Satur- day, however, rather lowers them in the estimation of the critics. Illinois Threatens The Illinois team, on the other hand, has been improving steadily all season. After its defeat at the hands of Wisconsin the Orange and Blue came back with a vengeance and wal- loped the proteges of both Stagg and Yost. Coach Zuppke is a wily mentor and it will not surprise many of the close followers of the game to seehis eleven down the Ohioans in the com- ing battle. Chicago has a chance of taking sec- ond position. This can only come about by an Illinois defeat at the hands of Ohio and a Maroon victory over the strong Badger eleven this Saturday. Unless both of these come, to pass the Stagg eleven will end' the season in third place. Close orr Chicago's heels come Wis- consin, Minnesota and Iowa. All chance of finishing in fourth place. Moreover, two of them are bound to come out tied no matter how the Sat- urday games result. Michigan is next on the list with Northwestern close behind. Indiana and. The defeat -of the Badgers at the hands of Minne- sota was a great surprise to all the critics andit is -to be put down as more .of a. trick of fate than anything else. 'Dhat Minnesota is really weaker than the Badgers is almost a certainty.. The Michigan contest with -Minne- sota is' tie Wolverines' last chance to make the season anything other than a complete failure. On the other hand Minnesota's standing in the race will be very little affected by a defeat:-Sat- urday. If she loses she will have to accept fifth position instead of a tie for fourth. Looking back over the season it has been one of the most curious in the history of Conference football. Early in the fall it' was thought that the ,0. S.
