THE MAJESTIC
"The Birth of a Race," with its nar-
rative set off against a background of
biblical, mediaeval, and modern page-
ants, will be shown today and tomor-
row at the Majestic.
Beginning with the creation, the
great events in the progress of man-
kind are depicted in the prologue
which precedes the story. Differing
from most of the war pictures this one
concerns a young American of Ger-
man descent. His father allows him-
self to become the tool of the Pruss-
ian government, but he disobeys his
father and marries the girl of his
choice. While he is at the front his
wife performs an equal service at home
by aiding in the exposure of a German
munitions plot.
THE ARCADE
Norma Talmadge in "The Isle of
Conquest," her latest Select picture,
will be shown today and tomorrow at
the Arcade.
Appearing with Miss Talmadge are
her sister, Natalie, Wyndham Stand-*
ing, Garreth Hughes, and Mrs. DeWolf
Hopper.j
The story is taken from "By Right
of Conquest," by Arthur Hornblow.
It is about a frivolous widow and her
two daughters. Failing in her own
attempts to marry a wealthy -man
named Van Surdam, she persuades
one' df her daughters to marry him so
that they all can live comfortably on
his money. This involves a great sac-
rifice to the daughter as she does not
love Van Surdam. Later, however,
things shape themselves so that she
can marry the one she loves.
