DARKNESS CALLS DRAW ON SIN-
ULE MATCH PLAYED
YESTERDAYt
Rain again caused a halt in the fallt
tennis tournament. The clay courts
on Ferry' field had not dried suffi-
ciently by Tuesday afternoon to al-
low play. One match, however, ' ias
started on the cement court and int
this, Sanchez and Reindel played tot
a draw. Sanchez won the first seta
7-5.' The next went 6-4 for Reindel.
Darkness made it impossible to con
tinue and "the match was postponed
until Thursday.
Weather Unfavorable
As had been feared, bad weather is
now putting in its appearance. If the'
tournament is to be finished, advan-3
tage of every favorable moment must
be taken. The changing of. time has
also cut short the playing hours so
that it will be necessary to default all
delinquents.
The schedule for Wednesday is an-
nounced as 4follows:-Christie, 549-M,
vs. FrIedman,:1104; Cole, 1457-J, vs.
winner of Christie-Friedman match;
Ohlmacher, 1223-R, vs. Gregory, 1992-1
M; Angell, 131, 's. winner of Ohl-
macher-Gregory match. Completion of
these matches will bring the play in
the singles down to the semi-finals.
Double Schedule :
,The doubles schedule for today in-1
cludes 'the following matches: Burley1
and Munger vs. Pareira and Christiei
(after singles are played); Bowers!

LARGE SQUAD OUT
FOR BASKETBBALL
Coach Mather sbnt his Varsity bas-
ketball cgndidates through a etiff
practice last evening in Waterman
gym: There were about 45 aspirants
who turned out yesterday, an exceed-
ingly good showing for this time of
year.
No scrimmage was indulged in, but
the coach kept the players hard at
work on passing and dribbling prac-
tice. There is a possibility that he
may send the men through a short
scrimmage Thursday night.
The forwards, guards and centers
were separated and the names of al
the candidates for the various post-
tions taken so that the coach can keep
track of the ones who show up the
best during practice.
When the football season is con-
.cluded it is certain that several more
promising candidates will come out
,for basketball. 'They, should raise the
number of hopefuls to three score at
least. This will be the largest squad
that has ever turned out for the court
game since its institution as a major
sport here two years ago. With this
amount of material to work with and
the acknowledged ability of Coach
Mather to teach the game, Michigan
should enjoy an unusually good year
on the basketball court.,
While a scoreless game was being
played .on an adjoining field, the ju-
nior engineers and freshman lits
played an extra period without being
able to score on each other. The
teams were evenly matched and play-
ed straight football but could not out-
fight nor out-play each other until
darkness caused the game , to be
called.
Lent, right tackle for the juniors,
and Suits, who went in for one of
the guards, were the stars for their
team in the forward line and Gogul-
ski at fullback did more than his
share to break up the freshmen plays.
On the offense Spaulding shone and'
gained repeatedly.
Sutton and Bailey were the stars
for the yearlings, Sutton on defense
and Bailey on the offense. Other men
whose play attracted notice were,
Dallavo, who played an excellent
game at right end, and Rice, who
broke up most of the opponent's plays
which came through the line.
ENGINEERS BATTLE
DOCTORS TO DRAW
In one of the first interclass foot-
ball games of the year the sopho-
more engineers held the All-Medics to
a scoreless tie.
The medic team out-weighed their
opponents about 15 pounds to the man
but they were unable to make use of
their weight against the fight that
the engineers maintained throughout
the contest. The 'only' time that a
score was threatened was in thethird
period when a long forward pass that
the sophomores completed . brought
the ball. to the five yard line. Twice
the sophomores got the ball within
kicking distance of the goal and drop
kicks were attempted but they both
failed.
Hobbs, Hobi and Rosenfleld were
mainly responsible for the fact that
the medics were unable to pierce the
sophomores' line, while Adams and
the other heavier linemen of the med-
ics stopped the line plays of the en-
gineers. Paige, quarterback for the
sophs, made the only long run of"the
game. McCallum was the most con-
sistent' ground gainer for the medics.

In the old colony days, bowl-

Bowling is not a fad. It has

Chicago, Oct. 28.-Maroon followers
see a ~possibility of going into a tie
with Ohio State for the Conference
title this year. The easy win from
Northwestern give the Midwayites
ground for the belief that they have
a better teami than was expected, and
one that may win its way to the top
of the Big Wen.
There were no serious injuries on
the Chicago team, and only McGuire
is in poor shape. There is a chance
that he will not play for two weeks.
