Reports from. the MV. A C. campus
indicate that both students and team
have. recovered from the shock of last
week's defeat at the hands of Kala-
mazoo and are anticipating a victory
at Ferry field next $aurday.
Five.'Captains ln Lioe-Up
Whether they. really believe they
can beat the Maize and Blue or wheth-
er the talk is pubilicity remains to
be seen. At any event 'Coach Ga-'
tier is prepared to send is best men
against Yost's warriors Indications
are that all five of the Aggie cap -
tains will be on the line'and that at'
least two more xplayers who did not
figure in the opening "line-ups will beI
added to,the squad. Bassett with one'
year's experience, has convinced the''
M. A. C. aculty that he is eligible
and will probably start at left half
in place ofoblet, whose mistakes are
largely held responsible for lastl
week's defeat.
Hlutch~ngg of **Detroit e~traI has
developed Into sn eficent subs~tute
for Springer at quartr and so' has
largely overcome the lss in case the
regular pilot is again taken out of the
game as was the casq Oat Kalamazoo.
Line "WIU Be Strome
It Is generally conceded, however,
that the line will frns the most se-
rious obstacle of the game. Ramsey
at left end wvas captain- elect in 118
antd r'was 'succeeded by Archer who
will ,be in the line-uip at the pivot
position. Coryell, the third captain
to head the Farmers in '18 plays at
left tackle. Vanbervoort, captain-
elect In "17 plays left guard' with
Franson, this year's skipper at right
tacklet. This quiptet w~l afford no
Light opposition, W ile the remaining
two 'most Twobableo tanclidptes have
had at least one year on the squad.
The backfield Is also composed of
veterans, but none with the estab-
lished reputation of the five namd
There are a total of 16 men on Gau-
tier's list who have won their mon-
ogram on the Aggie gridiron Coach
'Yost had a; perfect right to say that
men of this caliber cannot be expect-
ed, to. ept m iakes which lost
them early season games, Neither
kqum lhas yet shown form which ju-
ti fes very promising predctionsr.
' Varsty 1I1s Easy .Day
Today's practice on Ferry field was
largely devoted to signal tarif and
chalk Ltalks, the team taking the field
late in the afternoon and then- only
for, light practice it is probable that
Yost desired to give them only
enougl} work to apeustom them to a
wet 'field ant' b411, p~efering not to
rug the risk Pf ipjufieg.
It bust- be remembered that a vi-
tory fgr M.. C . Will n e4.n very-
thling for thgi< sscho lwhle p, Win for
Michigan will not affect her con-
ference standing In view of t~is it
is eXpected that the Maize and Blue
will attempt to score early in the
game and then slow up in an effort
to prevent injuries which might work
great harm in the five big games
which Michigan will; still face.

IURI)UE .E'OInEERS INSPECT
JNIVERSIrY ILABORATORIES
Sixty-seven mechanical engineers
from Ptirdue University, were' in the
city Thursday afternoon on a tour 'of
inspection of the University engineer-
ing laboratories and shops. They came
here from Detroit after spending two
days inspecting the Packard, Cadillac,
Dodge, and Ford factories and the Bur-
roughs adding-machine plant, and the
pumping station of that city. At 9:45
o'clock Thursday evening they left
Ann Arbor for Chicago where they will
complete their inspection tour by vis-
s ting the Western Electric, McCormick
and Chicago Edison establishments.
Illinois
U'rbana, Oct. 16.-Coach Bob Zupp-
ke is probably the most worried men-
tor in Conference circles at the pres-
ent time, unless the bear stories that
are drifting from the Illini camp are
1untrue. Sternaman, star back, is out
of the game for more than a week, and
Captain Tropp is also on the injured
list. This weakens the backfield just
before the Iowa game,' and by indi-
cations the Iowa team is in. shape to
give any Conference team a run and l
the possibilities are likely that the
weakened Illinois team will fall be-
fore Coach Jones' speedy eleven.
Applegran is the inpst likely man
for the place left vacant by betich,
but Lifvendahl is giving the older mnan
a hard scrap,

MVinneapoljs, Oct, 16.-Plays that f
Indiana used last, Saturday, and is,
expected to use lin the game at In-
dianapolis, failed to gain any ground
for the freshmen in the scrimmage
against the Varsity yesterday. It
was nearly 8 o'clock when the ses-
sion was over, D~r. Williams taking
the last opportunity of the week to
polish the rough 'edges for Satur-
day's game. The line-up remaled as
usual, with Vern Willianms still in
street clothes.

icapped by an injured foot.lHe was'
