The game was the best one that the Michigan team has played this year and it was due to the fact that every man was playing as well as he was able that the victory was possi- 'ble against such formidable rivals. ow California L o s t. Yesterday, VARSITY TRACK TEAM TRAVELS TO OHIO STATE Saturday will b'a big day on Ferry field. The interest of the morning will center around Coach Steve Ferrell's interclass track meet, and in the after- noon will be divided between the track meet with Ohio State and the base- ball games with Illinois. The interclass meet has thus far at- tracted only about fifty entrants, and,; when one takes into consideration the number of events on the program, fif- ty is a relatively small number, an average of slightly more than three to an event. Entry lists are posted on "the bulletin board in 'the club house on Ferry field and men may sign up there any time. The meet is .open to all men on the camus who have never won an "M", and "A. M. A.", or nu- merals in track, and it is therefore expected that a larger nmber of men W41i take advantage of the opportunity offered them, for winners of first, sec- ond, and third places in each event will be awarded their numerals pro- vided that five men are entered in the event. Coach Farrell especially urges that freshmen turn outas it will give him a splendid opportunity of looking over the prospects for next year, as well as giving the men the advantage of puttng themselves under his obser- vaton. At 2 o'clock in the afternoon run- ners of Michigan and Ohio State will meet in the last dual track event of the year before the grand finale of the Conference meet. It is hardly to be expected that Ohio can carry off the honor of the day, for Michigan is easily the third best organization in the Conference. The Buckeyes, however, are sure to present enough stiff competition to make things more than interesting, and the large crowd that is expected will be amply repaid. The baseball game will start immediately after the track meet. SOCCER PLAYERS DEFEAT PONTIAC Michigan's soccer team defeated the strong Pontiac shin-kickersin a hot- ly contested 2-1,game played at Pon- tiac last Saturday and increased 'the glory of the victory by virtue of the fact that for over half the game only 10 men were playing for Michigan.I There is a rule in soccer forbidding the substitution of fresh men for in- jired ones and so when Merry, the? Michigan half-back, was out of the game with a severe kick in the.an- ke, the other 10 men played all the1 harder and succeeded in keeping the lead until the finish. The first score for Michigan came in the middle of the first half when Baucs booted the ball through the goal. The second half opened with another score by BVucis and it was not until the middle of the half that the home team got their first and only score. l. The boys from the Golden State look to be a mighty good ball team and the game held the big crowd from start to fin- ish. NOW THAT double play in the sixth was a clever f piece of work. With Myers on first and one down Hudson hit a sharp one to Knode who tossed it to Van Boven retiring Myers. Van relayed to Newell and ended the inn- ing. NOW THAT fellow Van Boven looks better every game. He was right on hand with the goods yesterday, all right. NOW THAT Catholic aggregation is no slouch. Monday on the Polo Grounds he laced the pill over the fence which surrounds the grounds for the longest drive in his- tory. For the past week the mighty Babe has been sick with the measles and it was thought that his hitting would be affected by his sickness. However, with cat calls ."of "You're sick" and "Where's the home run king," ringing in his ears he stepped to the plate and faced Weilman. Weil- man sent a winding curve down the lane, which was slated to cut the cor- ner of the plate until it connectel with the enji of Babe's long ash bat and started on its long journey over> the fence of the Polo Grounds. Bedlam in its wildest hours had nothing on that crowdf who had juste seen a ball hit as only Ruth could hit it. The high price of straw bonnets was forgotten and in fact many of the new head pieces were mangled beyond tepair. It looks as if big Babe is out to set a new record. De Klyn's Candies of Cleveland.
