MAJESTIC The popular Stevenson stories which -have recently been photographed for the screen and William S. Hart's latest release make up the Majestic's uni- formly excellent program for this week. John Barrymore, star on the -stage and screen, interprets the unique dual role in "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," to be shown for three days beginning to- day. Supplementing Barrymore in his presentation of the character of Dr. Jekyll, the philanthropic London phy- sician whose subconscious self asserts itself disatrously, are Martha Mans- I field, Branton Hurst, Charles Lane, J. Malcom Dunn, Cecil ClovellyINata Naldi, and George Stevens.: "Dr. Je- kyll and Mr. Hyde" has been excep- tionally well received in New York and other cities where it has been shown. The romance and adventure of "Treasure Island" have been embodied in Maurice Tourneur's picturization of the well-known Stevenson tale, which will be shown Wednesday and Thurs- day at the Majestic. The old Benbow Tavern has .been reprodleed in real- istic detail, and realism and vi idness are carried through the 'cenes show- ing the coming of Bill Bones, the sea- captain; the appearance of Black Dog; the fight for the treasure chart; and the numerous other entertain'ing incidents of the adventurous story. Owing to the impossibility of finding a boy who suited Maurice Tourneur's ful hero of the story, Tourner chose Shirley Mason, who he thought would have all the charm and piquancy that could be hoped for, for the leading role. In making its appearance at the Ma- jestic Friday and Saturday, William S. Hart's "Toll Gate" will be shown for the first time in Michigan. Ad- vance notices report this to be the best picture Hart has yet appeared in.' ARCADE Lew Cody, king of screen fussers, will appear today, tomorrow and Tues- day at the Arcade in "The Butterfly Man," by George Barr McCutcheon, an elaborate treatment of modern so- ciety from a novel angle. In this picture, which abounds in luxurious settings, Cody appears as a masculine social climber, who, urged on by his sisters, who have failed to "marry well," turns his energies and populartiy with the opposite sex to- ward marrying an heiress. His moth-' er is the only beneficial influence in the career during which, by sheer pre- sumption, Cody forces himself into the "four hundred" and makes himself the idol of ultra fashionable women of all ages. Mr. Cody is supported by three fem- mine stars, Louise Lovely, Rosemary which numbers more than four h dred. Hurled crockery is usually con ered to promote discord between ers, but this is not the case in Woman Who Understood," which v feature Bessie Barriscale Wednes and Thursday at the Arcade. Appe ing as Madge Graham, a young sci tress operating a tea room in Gre wich Village, Miss Barriscale is st tied on catching a glimpse of a ha some young man in the act of coma ting suicide. Seizing a cup she thro it towards him, and the interrupi is sufficient to deter him from taki his life. Tactfully ignoring the in dent, she discovers that he is a i sician who is disconsolate because being dismissed from an orches She secures his reinstatement a their friendship results in marriage The pair enter another chapter their lives three or four years la when the husband becomes engro in a wealthy flirtatious woman w assumes admiration of art for ot motives.
