WOLVERINE-ILLNI °SAME
TO 0DROP BI-0TEN TITLE
MICHIGAN MUST TAKE ONE OF
TWO PLAYED TO -
,WIN
Michigan, undefeated as yet by any
of the Conference baseball teams,
.will go to Champaign today to play
the University of Illinois in what will
probably be one of the two games that
'will decide the Big Ten title.
A victory in this game means that,
although the final game may go
against Coach Lundgren's men, the
title will be secure. Illinois must
win both of the games with Michi-
gan to take first place.
Expect Fast Game
Coach Lundgren is looking for a
fast game with the Orange and Blue
squad and admits that the outcome is
much in doubt, though the dope fav-
ors Michigan. Illinois has lost to two
Conference teams, Iowa and Chica-
go. Michigan has .had no trouble in
winning from these teams in games
played lately. The Chicago setback to
the Illini hopes cames as a surprise
to the followers of Illinois baseball,
as the best bet on Coach Huff's squad,
Ryan, did the pitching and was knock-
ed 'out of the box in the fifth inning.
Ryan will probably be the choice of
the Illinois mentor to work against
the Michigan crew. He has records o
victories over nearly all of the Big
Ten teams and is the only chance of
the Illini to win. Wrobke, the second
pitcher, looked good in the game with
Wisconsin, which he won handily.
There is a possibility that-he may be
used instead of Ryan.
Catholc Victory a Surprise
Michigan's defeat by Notre Dame last
Wednesday came as a surprise and a
disappointment to the followers of
Wolverine baseball, but may prove a
blessing in disguise, in that the weak
points have been exposed and will be
;remedied before tomorrow's game. The
Michigan batting and base running was
not all that it should have been and
there seemed to be a general lack of
pep in the playing of all the men.
Michigan Support~ Good
The support accorded the two Michi-
gan hurlers was some of the best of
the season. There were misplays,
except the disastrous ped ball by
Hluber that allowed the winning run
".to come across. It is expected that the
Michigan playing in the coming se-
ries will benefit from the defeat from
the fast Catholic team.
Little was done in the practice held
on Thursday, as the men are already
'prepared for the coming encounter.
Bunting and base running were points
stressed; the coach is quite pleased
with the performance of the team in
bunting, but the base running is not
yet what it should be. The team will
leave this noon for'Champaign, and
will return Sunday.
The nest game is with Ohio State
Wednesday on Ferry field. Illinois
closes the Wolverine season, a week
from this Saturday, June 7. This game
may have some bearing on the title
chase, if Michigan loses at Cham-
paign.,
SWIMMERS DRILL
FOR 1919 REGATTA
As only a little more than one week
remains before the 1919 regatta which
will be held on Saturday, June 7, the
University .swimmers have been put-
ting extra time on practices.
Much improvement was evidenced
Tuesday in the weekly workout under
the supervision of Coach Drulard and
it is probable that the advent of warm
weather will permit outdoor drill dur-
ing the coming week.

No official program has been ar-
ranged as yet but the meet is planned
to resemble the regatta of 1916. Swim-
ming and canoe races and fancy div-
ing from the high dive at the muni-
cipal beach are among the tentative
events scheduled for the day.
Among the swimming events there
will probably be the following: Fifty
and 100 yard free style swims, 50
yard back and breast stroke, and a
plunge for distance.
VARSITY TRACK SQUAD KEEPS
[7P DAILY DRILL ON FERRY FIELD
Despite the fact bhat the Varsity
track squad has been depleted to a
certain extent by having eight men
leave for Boston to participate in the
pig track meet, being here there, track
practice for the remainder of the
squad is continuing at Ferry field.
Although Coach Farrell is not there
to supervise the training, the short
trousered lads, who are still in the
city, are keeping their muscles in
condition by light workouts until the
coach returns.
The eight men who were sent to
Boston to uphold the honor of Michi-
gan have arrived safely in thercity
and are awaiting a chance to shaow
their ability on thecinder path. 7ne-
sides taking part in the programs tliat
have been arranged for them by Bos-
ton boosters of the meet, they have
been resting, that their muscles might
be in shape for the big contest.
