ENGINEERS EXAMS WILL BE OPTIONAL Final examinations will be given in the engineering college hereafter if the department deem it advisable to hold finals. This is the substance of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Engineering faculty Monday. The resolution to a certain extent abolishes the system which has been used during the past two years in the engineering college. That is the sys- tem of not holding one continuous four hour examination, but of hold- ing four one hour quizzes during the two week examination period. This enabled classes to be held until the end of the two week examination period. It is thought that in theoretical courses, such as mathematics, that it is more advisable to hold one con- tinuous examination than to break it up into several. In certain courses, however, it means that the same sys- tem as before will be used. The labor- atory courses will still be enabled to hold classes and conduct work until the end of the semester. This puts into force two methods CLASSIFIED FOR RENT FOR RENT-Canoe storage, Morris Canoes, Old Town Canoes. Used Canoes for Sale. Easy payments. It is the opinion of some professors that better results can be obtained by final examinations and some believe that the system of pro- longed quizzes is better. The resolu- tion passed by the faculty thus ehi- ables the professors to use the method which they believe is best fitted for the course. The ruig will go into effect imme- diately and will be used for the final examinations at the end of this se- mester. BAKER ELIGIBLE FOR TRACK TEAM Joe Baker, premier weight man of Farrell's 1918 track squad, is again reporting at Ferry field and will be eligible for intercollegiate competi- tion by the end of the week. Although he failed to place in last year's outdoor intercollegiates, Bak- er was considered one of the strong- est shot putters in the Conference and will increase the strength of the 1919 outfit considerably. He has been hitting the 42 foot mark regularly dur- ing the past week and is counted upon as a big asset, for the dual meet with Chicago to be held at AnnArbor on May 18. aI I HEN you buy a pipe bearing the W D C trade-mark, you have the satisfaction of knowing that your money could not have bought a better pipe.
