[ Detroit Opera Hbuse-on-the-Cam- pus-"Passing Show of 1918." I I AT THE MAJESTIC An excellent story, noteworthy act- ing, and superb production character- ize the Cecil B. DeMille picture, "The Squaw Man," which will be shown for the last times today at the Majestic. The play Is an effective adaptation of the famous stage play concerning Jim Wynnegate, English gentleman, who assumes another's name, comes to America, and marries an Indian girl living near his western ranch. His name is later cleared and he is called back to assume his title and estate in England, but refuses to leave his Indian wife, preferring to send his young son to take up the title. Be- lieving that she stands in the way of his happiness, Naturich, the Indian girl wife, kills herself and Wynnegate lat- er returns to his native country. The story is especially suited, to screen production, and gives Mr. De- Mille great opportunity to display his talent for beautiful effects. The end- ing of the play seems a bit abrupt, but leaves the audience happy at seeing the Squaw Man come In to his own. Ann Little, as the worshipping lit- tle Indian wife, gives a remarkable characterization and makes the audi- ence feel keenly the tragedy of her position. Elliott Dexer, Theodore Roberts, Jack Holt, and Tully Mar- shall give their usual finished inter- pretations. AT THE ARCADE Earle Williams has a duel indenti- ty role which gives him dramatic op- portunity in "A Gentleman of Quality," which will, be shown at the Arcade today only. The picture is adapted from the popular novel by Frederic Van Renn- salaer Dey, and centers about a young American who loses all idea of his identity and is forced by fate to marry a beautiful and titled woman whose missing husband he so closely resem- bles. that she and all her kin claim him as their own. Madge Kennedy will appear Sunday and Monday in "Daughter of Mine." ADULTS 20c-Including Tax-CHILDREN 10c Cecil B.
