the antagonists of college athletics
is that too few are represented. If
intercollegiate athletics were to de-
pend for their justification upon the
physical development of those efgag-
ed, they would have to be abandoned.
The mass system is the most propit-
ious step in the right direction. The
very nature of the plan recalls the
methods used in the great schools of
England and France. Very much im-
portance in these institutions is at-
tached to the spirit and rivalry in the
games and meets, and the finest good
sportmanship is thus effected on the
part of those engaged.
Under Dr. May, with an enthusiastic
band of class managers much can be
anticipated from these efforts. In ev-
ery school where the system has been
given a trial, it has resulted in perm..
anent adoption, And from the reports
of all concerned in a school as large
as Michigan, it is prophesied that not
only will it stimulate spirit in college
affairs, and bring many good men to
the notice of the Varsity coaches, but
will prove of great benefit in matters
of health and exercise, and result in
a well warranted success.

Little white cots and wheel chairs
could not dampen the Easter spirit of
the children in the Palmer ward of
the University hospital Sunday morn-
ing.
In spite of the fact that other Eas-
ters they had romped around 'their
own homes and searched the odd nooks
and corners for the Easter bunny; they
enjoyed to the full extent the egg
hunt in the hospital ward. One little
boy with his leg in a cruel cast manip-
ulated his wheel chair with such skill
that he joyfully exclaimed, "I've found
three."
There were flowers, too, from the bo-
tanical gardens and from individuals
who came to entertain the children in
the afternoon.
With Easter in the air and sun-
shine outside it was) a gala day and
as one little, pale child said, "My,
everybody is glad today."
