GRENNAN Custom Tailor Original Designs Now Open for Business I 14 Nickels Arcade Preliminary practice for the Con- ference mass athletic meet will start Monday on the small field beside Wat- erman gymnasium. This mass track and field meet will be, if it has the success it merits, and is expected to have, one of the biggest things in the life of the American college and nation. It comes in re- sponse to the plea from the govern- ment to "keep fit." The value of train- ing in the war has shown what could be done if men were in athletic trim and ready to undergo hardships. Un- der the present system this is almost impossible for any save the best in each line of sport, but with the mass athletic idea installed any number of men could compete and the results that each entry obtains will go to- ward the final total, giving every man a sense of responsibility. Dr. May Enthusiastic Dr. May and his assistants are very enthusiastic over the possibilities pre- sented by the new idea and are anxious to get to work as soon as possible. They will start action on the small track at the side of the gym- nasium because of the locker and bath- 'ing facilities. Some one will be at the track every afternoon to instruct in the various events, which include, 100 yard dash, 50, yard low hurdle, running broad and high jumps, and 12 pound shot put. Month to Train Finals for all events will be held on Ferry field, May 17, and 24. This leaves only a month for the men to get in condition and all of the time will be needed to obtain the best re- sults. All students in school are elig- ible, except those who have already won an athletic a'ward in some branch of sport. This meet is also 6pen to members of the faculty, in order that it, will 'be a step tward universal physical training. Records of the performances in practice will be kept by the coaches and in picking the team, of 200 mem- bers, these results will be made the basis of selection. Since some of them had seen him hit up a speed of between one hundred and one hundred and ten miles to the hour, they wisely ignored the chal- lenge. Wally prefers his "boat" to even an aeroplane, and he has piloted a sky-ship on several occasions. Strict business ethics won't allow us to tell you the make of his car, but maybe you can guess it. For real speed, though, Wally says, you will want to see him in his coming Par- amount production, "Alias Mike Moran."
