THE MICHIGAN DAILY Although a drill press in a.medical dispensing room sounds ominous, such an instrumenthas been installed in the dispensing room of the Medi- cal building. It has not as yet been connected with a motor, but soon will be. The press is necessary for the re- pair of many instruments used in the medical profession. Engineers are still returning from the war to take up their courses in the University. Among those who have re- cently come back are: G. E. Kunzee, '22E, who was overseas; Ernest Naeg- ly, '19E, who was recently discharged; Clifford Sparks, ex-'19E, who was a former football star; Richard Chynow- eth, ex-'19E, visited the secretary's of- flee Thursday, and will return for summer school. Captain Norman Peeble, '13E, who was in France for eight months, visited the engineering department. The returning men are taking up work which they had not completed upon their departure for war, and by finishing the courses are receiving their credit in them. An article by A. F. "Remnant" with Florence Nash, as the star, which comes to the Whitney thea- ter, Tuesday, April 22, direct from, a four months' triumph aththe Morosco theater, New York, has been called a French "Peg o' My Heart." It has all the added sparkle that the French element implies and a "Polly- anna" with a saving sense of humor. Added to these and not the least, is the charming personality of Miss Nash, in the title role, who has the reputa- tion of getting more laughs per min- ute from her audiences than any oth- er Broadway comedienne. Situations are said to have the French audacity without any of the of- fensive suggestions often found in so- called French comedies. AT THE ARCADE Norma Talmadge herself secured the famous Claridge hotel of New York for several of the scenes in "The Pro- bation Wife," in which she is appear- ing for the last times today at the Arcade theater. The. picture called for several scenes in a fashionable dance-restaurant, and the Claridge suggested itself at once to Miss Talmadge. The idea was put aside by her director who hadtmade several unsuccessful attempts to se- cure the use +of this "location" in the past. The star, however, put it over all the "wiseacres" by going down to see the Claridge manager in person, with the inevitable result. AT THE SHUBERT-GARRICK Detr olt The sceies for "So Long, Letty," in which Charlotte Grenwood is ap- pearing at the Shubert-Garrick, De- troit, this week, were drawn from the quaint "Trolley Car Colony," which flourishes on the Pacific coast, 18 miles from San Francisco. The story is written around two fam- ilies who live next door to each other in twin horse-cars fitted up as cot- tages. Tommy Robbins is domestic and loves to putter in the garden amd eat home-made food. Letty, his wife, hankers for smart gowns and cabarets. Grace Miller's idea of a perfect day is to clean house and present her Harry with a ten-strike meal when' night falls, Harry, however, lingers by the way-side bars and poolrooms, The inevitable plan to "swap" wifes fol- lows, Educational Club to Meet Next Weik The Girls' Educational 'club will hold its regular meeting next week at Martha Cook dormitory. At that time it is expected that Professor Winkler will address the club on matters of interest to future school teachers. 2 - 3:30 - 7 Today - Tomorrow l Fred stone IN UNDER THE TOP It isn't good for anybody of over delicate constitu tion to see this Arteraft picture of Fred Stone's. You just get finished rattling every rib laughing when he's off again with some more circus-fooling and you either have to close or quit. Some of the biggest circus scenes that ever came down the pike are in "Under The Top." Nothing short of the Big Tent could stage all of Stone's acrobatic mir- acles, vaulting and parachuting. - 8:30 Th cend c, Uic end round. F QED SION t_:'J cr.the Tai. '.. You'll more than like it.
