The act is entertaining and decided- ly mystifying. During the first part of the performance, Mr. Axmi went through the audience indicating var- ious articles while his blind-folded as- sistant on the stage named them, giv- ing numbers, dates, and other detailed information. He then answered writ- ten questions which were submit ed to him, involving information and ad- vice. Mr. Axmi claims no supernatural powers, attributing all his work to ad- vanced psychology which, he says, will in time come into universal use. Vivian Martin in "Mirandy Smiles," is the photoplay attraction. The story lacks in plot and action but proves entertaining, due mostly to Miss Martin, who has many of the Mary Pickford assets and reminds one not a little of this actress. AT THE WHITNEY One of the striking' features of "Miss Springtime," the big musical comedy which comes to the Whitney. theater tonight, is the seenio investit ture provided by the renowned design- er, Joseph Urban. Essentially a modernist, Urban re- volutionized stage decoration and me- chanism a few seasons ago. The old school frowned on him but he won his first real recognition from Messrs. Klaw and Erlanger. In this produc- tion, Urban took his inspiration from the famous music of Kalman, and dove-tailed his scenic creations with the brilliant story and dialogue of Guy Bolton. "Miss Springtime" has been called the most perfect musical comedy ever origniated in America and its present- ation in Ann Arbor may be considered an event of the season. AT THE ARCADE "The Probation Wife," in which Norma Talmadge appears Thursday and Friday at the Arcade, was rated by the "Dramatic Mirror" as "great." Miss Talmadge plays five distinct characters in this picture, ranging from "Jo," the favorite inmate of a dance hall, to the loving wife of a wealthy New Yorker, whom she first marries as his "probation wife."
