De Mille, one of the photo- drama's foremost directors, is respon- sible for the staging of "Mirandy Smiles,' in which Vivian Martin ap- pears Wednesday and Thursday at the Majestic. In "MirandySmiles," he gives us the simple story of a little scrub girl who works in a theater in a middle west- ern town. and his work is said to be up to its usual high standard. fF-Q 0 ecamn AgaraC60mg N ALLA AXN'I AT THE WHITNEY "Miss Springtime," which is sched- uled for Thursday, April 17, at the Whitney theater, is said to be the larg- est musical production now touring the country. The piece is the greatest success that Klaw and Erlanger have produced, and ran for a year at the New Amsterdam theater, New York, the house which caters only to home runs for musical hits, each one of which must last a season before it is considered a winner The music of "Miss Springtime," which is by Emmerich Kalman, com- poser of "Sari," has become even more popular than that of "The Merry Wid- ow," or "The Pink Lady." Book by Guy Bolton, lyrics by P. G. Wode- house and Herbert Reynolds, and set- tings by Joseph Urban, give promise of one of the greatest musical comedy treats of the season. T A S T E R M I D T A R I D AT THE ARCADE Norma "Peggy Does Her Darndest," in which May Allison appears at the Arcade theater Wednesday, is taken from Royal Brown's popular Red Book story of the same name. Miss Allison is said to eclipse her recent successin "In for Thirty Days," in this production. The story deals with a young mad-cap who is the de- spair of her conventional sister, the joy of her father and the conqueror of a mere man who finds it impossible not to fall madly in love with her. How her tom-boy athletic training comes into vital use and in the end makes her the heroine of the family, is thrillingly depicted. Sunday, One Day Only Master Seer and Crystal Gazer Knows All !
