After several years curing which productions were staged in all of their ancient splendor, and with the accompaniment of Latin or Greek tongues, a distinct departure was made last year in the presentation of "Phormio." So marked was its suc- cess that the club has determined to repeat, choosing this year "The Much Wooed Maiden," an adaptation of the Roman comedy, "Casina," one of the best of Plautus' dramatic works. Rehearsals of "The Much Wooed Maiden" began last week under the direction of George D. Wilner, grad. Wilner, who was last year connected with the oratory department of the University, and who has gainel con- siderable distinction for himself in the dramatic circles of Ann Arbor, has written the adaptation of the play to be used. The play will be given this year on April 3, being, as in past years, one of the features of 'entertainment for the Schoolmasters'convention which convenes here at that time. Tax Increase Sought One solution is suggested in the re- quest for an increase in the mill tax from three-eighths to one-half mill. Favorable action on the proposal would result in an increase of $350,- 000, .and would do much to avoid the continually straightened circumstanc- es of the institution. Without addi- tional appropriations, this amount would barely meet the overhead and running expenses. Without' the mill tax increase, building and construction work will be seriously impeded. Additional halls, new quarters for departments, and more modern and well built schools, which are necessary in order that Michigan may rank among the recognized state universities, will be impossible. 'ofmedy Club to Discuss Annual Play Prof. R. D. Hollister, director of the Comedy club, will discuss the play to be presented this semester by nem- bers of the society at a meeting to be held at 4 o'clock Tuesday afternoon in the Cercle Francais rooms.
