"COME ON, DAD1, REPLACES
OPERA CHOSEN IN SPRING
MUSIC PROMISES TO RANK WITH
BEST OF THAT IN FORMER
PRODUCTIONS
"Come on, Dad," will be produced
by the Michigan Union instead of one
of the scenarios accepted last spring,
because the writers of both of those
scenarios were not in the University
to get them into shape when the task
of picking an opera was undertaken.
Original Choice May Appear Next Year
It is possible that one of the two
will get to the footlights pext year,
although the Union expects to issue
a call for scenarios for next year be-
fore many weeks elapse. This cir-
cumstance resulted in the obtaining
of a book and lyrics which, it is con-
fidently asserted by officials, will be
stamped by the campus and alumni as
superior to anything ever produced
by the Union.
Donal Hamilton Haines, '08, the au-
thor, while an undergraduate, wrote
two of the best of Michigan operas, as
is evidenced by Michigan song books.
Since leaving college he has made
writing his business, and his work ap-
pears consistently in the magazines.
Members of Faculty Interested
Members of the faculty, it is said,
are particularly interested in the
opera because they know the calibre
of Haines' work, and are anxious to
see what he has done this time.
There are three songs which musi-
cians who have heard them believe are
destined to take rank with Michigan's
best. That is not to say that the re-
mainder of the music is mediocre, but
only that these three are exceptionally
good.
Director Shuter is at present devot-
ing his time to the picking and coach-
ing of the chorus, the cast members
being well started in their work.

igan Daily cater to ALL Michigan
