THE MICHIGAN DAILY FRIDAY, FEBRUARY

Mluseumn Publish
Work on Bivalves
For the first time since the Smith-
sonian Institute's publication at the
close of the Civil War there is now
available a complete classification of
American and Canadian shell-fish.
Dr. Bryant Walker, of Detroit, cura-
tor of the University's shell collection,
is the author.
It is not a work that would prove
interesting to the average reader de-
siring general information concern-
ing our fresh-water clams, or mem-
bers of that family. But to the zool-
ogist and teacher of natural history
this publication will be invaluable.
The Museum of the University is-
sues at intervals the results of va-
rious researches of its members. This
latest one by Dr. Walker, who is an
authority in his field, will add much
to the knowledge of this branch of
zoology. A thorough and complete
work on our fresh-water shell-fish can
now be had through the Museum.
Dr. Walker has at his home in De-
troit the largest private shell collec-

tion in this country.. Part of his col-
lection is kept with that of the Uni-
versity in the Museum building. The
securing of data for the present book
accompanied the task of bringing to-
gether this large collection.
DR. GOODYEAR TO
EXPLAIN PHOTOS
Persons who have viewed the un-
usually fine exhibit of photographs of
French cathedrals of the war zone
will be interested to know that
through the influence of Professor
Lorch, plans have almost been com-
pleted to bring Dr. William Goodyear
of the Brooklyn Museum to Ann Arbor
to explain the collection. Dr. Good-
year collected the photographs him-
self as part of the work of his re-
search on certain phases of gothic
architecture.
It is hoped that Dr. Goodyear will
be secured for some date early in
March. The exhibit remains at Memo-
rial hall and is open to the public
from :1:30 until 5 o'clock every day.
