HUTCHINS] UNABLE TO PRESIDE AT BANQUET Representatives of every school and cllege in the state will be extended invitations this year to attend the Union league banquet to be given Wed- nesday evening, Feb. 26, in 'Chicago, where the department of superinten- dents of the National Education asso- ciation holds its mid-year meeting this week. At this department of the associa- tion's conference which convenes Monday and continues throughout the week, the University will be repre- sented by the following: Dean John R. Effinger, Registrar Arthur G. Hall, Profs. A. S. Whitney, C. 0. Davis, and J. B. Edmonson, of the educational department, Dean Myra B. Jordan, Miss Grace Greenwood, social director of Martha 'Cook residence, and Miss Lucy E. Elliott, social director of New- berry residence. Wide Representation The superintendent section of the association meets at this time every year, while the entire association holds session in the summer. This department which convenes this week also consists of subsidiary meetings, such as the college teachers of edu- cation, of state universities, of normal schools, and of landgrant colleges. Ed- ucational institutions in every part of the country will be represented, and the work which is done is entirely ad- ministrative. Every Institution Invited It has always been the custom for the Union league in Chicago to give a dinner for the University representa- tives only, but this year the league has invited members from every institution in the state to attend. President Har- ry B. Hutchins was asked to preside at the banquet, but owing to the Board of Regents' meeting Friday, Feb. 28, he stated yesterday that it would be im- possible for him to attend. Music on Program Mr. Theodore Harrison will also go to Chicago and will have charge of the musical program which is to be given at the Michigan dinner. BANQUET AT UNION TO BOOM NEW PLANS FOR CIVIC IMPROVEMENT "Teamwork." That will be the watchword of the New Chamber of Commerce, according to the statementbofnRoscoe C. Boni- steel, who has been active in this movement ever since it was first dis- cussed by the citizens of Ann Arbor. And in order to further this growing enthusiasm for teamwork a dinner is being given Wednesday night at the Michigan Union by the new associa- tion. The Ann Arbor Civic association and the Ann Arbor Merchants' Credit association merged into one body on Feb. 7, and formed the nucleus for a new organization known as the New Chamber of Commerce. In this way two organizations, both with wide interests, have united in protecting and advancing the best interests of the city at large. The program for Wednesday even- ing will include many prominent men, both locally .and nationally. Many tickets have already been sold for the dinner. Those who have not yet purchased them are advised to do so Monday or Tuesday at the latest, as the committee on arrangements would like to know how many guests to prepare for. Tickets are on sale at the Michigan Union, the price be- ing 75 cets each. Since this is the first Get togeth- er" the new organization has really had it is earnestly hoped by those most interested that a large crowd will be present. This organization is a national institution. Its chief aim is to meet the needs of Ann Arbor in the best, most expedient way possi- ble. Members of the University faculty, who are taking such a vital interest in Ann Arbor's civic questions, are particularly urged to attend the din- ner Wednesday evening. To take care of the guests, the Union will be in need of 40 waiters. They are requested to report to Mr. Donivan, steward at the Union, some time Tues- day.
