NEW DIAGONAL WILL RUN FROM
GYMNASIUM PAST LIBRARY,
TO ALUMNI HALL
Plans have been made by the build-
ing and grounds department for a
greatly improved campus next spring.
Al of the lawns will be harrowed and
dragged to prepare the ground for
fresh seeding.
According to L. C. Pardon of the
grounds department, the seed needed
for this work will cot over $800. The
old tar walk on the main diagonal
will be torn up and replaced by ce-
ment walk. A new diagnoal will be
run from Waterman gymnasium past
the new library to the Alumni build-
ing.
The curbing on the- drive between
the Chemistry and Natural Science
building will be completed, and all of
the iron railings will be replaced
along the main walks. The temporary
buildings which are scattered about
the campus will be torn down, and
their concrete floors removed. Many
other minor improvements will in-
crease the beauty of the campus.
NEW WAR PRODUCTION PLANT
TO SERVE PEACE PURPOSES
Grand Rapids, Feb. 18.-Plans for
the state taking over the new picric
acid plant from the federal govern-
ment were greatly favored at a meet-
ing of the Grand Rapids Crop associa-
tion which was held in Grand Rapids
township this week. The plant will
not be used for the manufacture of
picric acid as was originally planned,
but under the state control will make
fertilizers.
This is thought will greatly aid in
the finding of employment for the
vast number of returning soldiers
and sailors who are in search of work.
LOCAL IUBLIC SCHOOL HEAD
RESIGNS AFTER LONG SERVICE
Herbert M. Slauson, '77,rsuperin
tendent of the Ann Arbor public
schools for the past 21years, resign-
ed from that position last week at
the meeting of the board of educa-
tion. This resignation will take ef-
fect at the end of the school year in
June.
It ir not known who will succeed
Mr. Slauson next fall.
MANY OUT-OF-TOWN STUDENTS
ENROLLED IN LOCAL HIGH
More than 100 out-of-town students,
several of them from foreign coun-
tries, are enrolled in the Ann Arbor
high school. South Americans, Chi-
nese, Cubans, and Mexicans are in-
cluded in the foreign representation.
