Sunday one of the year's sensa- tional pictures, Anita Stewart, in (slight-rmpLliss.... teloseupp n nn "Virtuous Wives," will start its run at the Majestic. It comes directly from the huge Madison theater,- in Detroit, where it has drawn immense crowds for a long run! It deals with the complicated questions of conjugal rights and duties in a!manner en- lightening and sincere without being offensive. of Nor mal Tines American flags again appear float- ing from State street fraternity hous- es for the first time, since last summer. During the stay of the S. A. T. C. those zealous privates who believed cleanliness to be next to godliness used the flag ropes upon which to hang drying garments. It was a common sight to see blouses, trousers, and leggings displayed to the four winds" of State street. Many ingenious de- vices were contrived whereby the clothes could be pulled in most exped- itiously. Now it is freshmen who replace the privates in hauling in the flag at sun- down, instead of the day's line of dry- ing uniforms. So said one of the greatest of Americans. Dorothy Dal- ton makes it very clear why France, and not Ireland, is the real heaven, in spite of a popular song to the con- trary. The qualities that make French women the toast of the world are dis- played by Miss Dalton in her play, "Vive La France," at the Majestic theater Friday and Saturday. This unit was among the first to arrive in France. It was es- tablished in Detroit in July, 1917. At present there are about 2,100 patients in the hospital, the majority of whom were wounded lin the fighting at Ar- gonne. Had 2,800 Patients Colonel Angus McLean, the com- manding officer, told a Herald corre- spondent that the hospital had ac- complishef excellent work, especially through its surgical staffs operating at the front. The hospital had its busiest time during last August, Sep- tember and October, when the number of beds -numbered almost 2,800. The' staff of 46 medical officers, 100 nurs- es and some 300 or more enlisted men were kept busy day and night. Since last July nine surgical teams have been sent to the front. Each team is composed of three surgeons, two nurses and two corps men. Two of the teams were cited for their ex- cellent work. Treats Returning Prisoners Major H. N. Torrey, of Detroit, who was on duty in the Argonne, said that It was by far, the most difficult time that the American surgeons had en- countered, especially with the Span- ish "flu" raging. Recently the hos- pital has been receiving the British prisoners of war who have been re- leased from Germany. They continue to straggle in two or three at a time from Switzerland. Bed Cross Appreated ,e The Red Cross organization has been a great help to the hospital. It is proving to be a great pleasure to the .wounded by serving hot choco- late at stated hours during the morn- ing and, afternoon. Dartmouth has a course in orches- tral music offering three semester hours, one recitation and two labor- atory periods. :111i1l1111g1U1111111Nll lllilltll lll11ll: Wuerth Theater SELECT FEATURE PICTURES 2:00, 3:30, 7:00, 8:30, 10:00 BOOKINGS FOR JANUARY Thur-Fri-6-17-Margarita Fisher in C "The Mantle of Charity." The British craft have two funnels and make 24 knots an hour on the surface under steam power. They car- ry from eight to ten torpedo tubes, two or three four-inch guns, and also are equipped with internal combustion motors for surface cruising. The bat- teries for the undersea power can be charged from both the steam and com- bustion engines. An ingenious scheme has neen devised for quickly dis- mantling the funnels for submerging. It is also known that the British have successfully built a submarine carrying a 12-inch gun, although the details of this craft have not been made 2-3:30-7-8:30 MAJESTIC ORCHESTRA Nightly-All Shows Sunday PHONE P 1701 Shows at sh 2:00 3:30 8:30 TODAY-TOMORROW DOROTHY DALTON "tVIVA-LA FRANCE" Ditmars Animal Studies Selected Coo COMING--SUNDAY-3 DAYS ANITA STEWART "VIRTUOUS WIVES' The Michigan Central viaduct just south of Ypsilanti is expected to be finished within a month or six weeks, should the present weather conditions continue. The work was held up for some time by the failure of the D. U. R .to build a temporary bridge around the site of the new structure. This was not done until the first of December. Now that the interurban cars are running over a temporary bridge the work of pouring the concrete for the viaduct is progressing rapidly. The county engineer is filling the ap- proaches as quickly as the work on the abutments permits, which will allow the crossing to be opened to traffic as soon as the viaduct is com- pleted.
