Davis, exi'17, in an extract om a letter just received at the of- me of the University School of Mu- c. "A German aeroplane was shot awn by our guns on Nov. 10, at 1:30 clock in the afternoon. When struck, e machine was at a height of ap- oximately 10,000 feet. The plane as seen to revolve and then plunge rectly to the earth. The pilot, shot rough the heart, fell from the ma- ine; but the observer through won- ,rful presence of mind escaped by a arachute, He was captured by a ser- aant of our regiment."- Davis, who was a member of the lee club and* Choral Union and also ok part in union operas, enlisted in e 338th infantry, 85th division last fring, A new tailor made uniform, size 40, great sacrifice can be tried on at H. The convention was irregular, be- ing made up of self-appointed candi- dates, but few such meetings have had such great significance. Even then feeling ran high on the subject of slavery and congress had voted to let in Arkansas and Michigan to balance each other. But in order to enter Michigan had to vote to accept a new boundary on the south which gave some of her territory to Ohio and In- diana. The point that put the motion through was the fact that the United States treasury had too much money on hand, so there was going to be a division of moneys. They figured that Michigan's share would be $450,000 if she got in on time. So they hurried- ly called this celebrated convention and passed the resolution. Miss Bennett rises to great emotional heights in this picture, she is assisted by Jack Holt, as leading man, and Maude George, as a Hawaiian girl. The story deals with the girl, wife of a brute who dominates her. They struggle over a revolver which. is dis- charged; she leaves him for dead and goes to Honolulu where she learns to love a real man. Then the husband shows up, steals her, and imprisons her in a hut, from which she finally escapes after many exciting adven- tures, and comes under the happi- ness she so justly deserves. Mack Sennett's latest comedy en- titled "Summer Girl," featuring Ford Sterling, will also be shown. It con- sists in the wild adventures of Ford in trying to get away from an imita- tion countess. In the course of this comedy a company of trained seals do some clever stunts in a large swim- ming tank. Hoover Co. Not Affected by War's End The Hoover Steel Ball Co.'s orders for munitions have greatly diminish- ed since the close of the war. The majority of the company's contracts during the period of the war consist- ed of orders for steel balls for torpe- do boats, aeroplanes and motor trucks, but the government has given no or- ders for these since the closing of hos-' tilities. However, the number of or-' ders for steel balls for pleasure autos have been sufficient to cover this defi-' ciency. Highest eash price paid for Liberty Bonds GEO. AT THE ARCADE "Thirty a Week,"with Tom Moore as a star, is to be seen at the Arcade today and tomorrow. It is said that this picture suits Mr. Moore even better than the play, "Just for To- night," which had such success at the Arcade a few weeks ago. Tallulah Bankhead, the beautiful Alabama girl who left Washington society to go in- to pictures, is Mr. Moore's leading lady in this picture. She is the daugh- ter of Representative William B.
