I TODAY AND TOMORROW YOSTMEN GIVEN TALK BY HURRY up CACH DISCUSSES SYRACUSE GAME AND INTRODUCES AGGIE PLAYS Coach Yost did not send his charg- es onto the gridiron yesterday, but kept them in the clubhouse to listen to one of his famous blackboard talks. Whether the drizzly rain kept the coach from sending the gridders onto the field is known only by him, but the discussion that took place in the room in the clubhouse reserved for that purpose, ably made up for loss ofj physical practice. With the Syracuse game as the primary topic for his consideration, the coach took each individual player' and told him Just what his faults were in the contest. On the whole, he was greatly satisfied with the per- formance of his men, but with his usual football ability, he was able to pick spots where the men might im- reversing the result of the last clash between the two schools. Last year the Aggies went home with a 21-0 de- feat. Coach Yost, however, has his mind set on taking the conference cham- pionship, and, if possible, laying claim to the highest honors in the country, and from present indications the Ag- gies are going to meet with opposi- tion of calibre that will demand event a better team than they have. , Fans Get JIusic With Football Football fans at Ferry field, this Sat- urday, will receive the musical treat of their lives when four distinct bands will furnish the music for the Wel- verine-Aggie contest. The famous Aggie band will be in attendance together with both the Army and Navy bands of the Univer- sity of Michigan. An added attrac- tion will be the "Blue Devils," a French army band made up of French soldiers who have recovered from CHICAGO CRITICS MAKE ILLIINIS__CHAMPIONS" SEEM TO FORGET MICHIGAN VIC- TORY OVER ORANGE TEAM There is a tendency among football experts to dope out by means of statistics, the championships of var- ious parts of the country, long before the seasonis at an end, and a consid- erable time before an authentic dis- cussion can be made. Cli Gives Illinois the Honors This year is no exception to the rule. Already the University of Ill- inois has been conceded the Confer- ence title by numerous newspapers, particularly in Chicago. This stand, particularly in the administration center of the Big Ten is rather unfair to the numerous colleges which still, remain undefeated. Among these are Michigan, who has not been defeated yet this year and in addition to this record, has defeat- ed the Syracuse eleven, which is re- puted to be one of the strongest teams in the east. To have beaten the best on the Atlantic seaboard is certainly as good as having beaten the best in the west. This year is not far differ- ent from any other. Michigan Must Meet 0. S. U. Having beaten Ohio State, the hold- ers of the 1917mConference champion- ship, Illinois immediately claimed the 1918 honors. This claim is premature. Until Michigan plays Ohio State and until Illinois has defeated Chicago, no concession of a western title can be made, nor can it be truly said that "Illinois seems entitled to the western Conference championship." Dunne, the clever end, came in for a little gruelling because of his eagerness in the contest Saturday. Unable to wait for the ball to get into action, Dunne was off side, caus- ing Perrin's pretty touchdown to go unscored. i Coach Yost commended the forwards for the stonewall they presented to the Orange team, giving Vick especial credit for the wonderful game he played. But not satisfied with just what he had witnessed in the Syracuse con- test, the hurry-up mentor offered his protsges some diversion when he in-I troduced the tactics used by the M. A. C. players. Coach Mitchell of the Varsity coaching squad Who was in ! EastLansing to witness the Aggie game with the Notre Dame, came back with a wealth of material on, the methods used by the farmers. Aggie Game Coming With the contest of next Saturday to look forward to the Wolverines are going to be given one of the tough- est workouts of the season. The farm- er lads,, it is said, have been tuning up to meet the Yostmen in hopes of with the Star Spangled Banner when Old Glory will rise to the top of an- other pole. All four bands will furnish music between the halves and quarters and before the contest. .PONTIAC SERVICE TEAM HOLDS CO. 4 TO A SHUTOUT With the game called in the last quarter because of a heavy downpour of rain, the Sanitary Train corps from Pontiac, Michigan, walked from Fer- ry field with the long end of the score Sunday afternoon when they met the grid men of Company 4 of the Uni- versity of Michigan Signal corps, Snyder, left half for the visitors, pulled the surprise and most spectac- ular play of the game when he caught the first kick off and ran the length of the field for a touchdown. Three other touchdowns gave the visitors a score of 27 while they held the Com- pany 4 team to a shutout. Personal Christmas cards-order them now at Wahr's University Book- store.-Adv.
