East Lansing, Oct. 30.-Due to con-
gestion of plans, there will be a com-
plete re-registration of all S A. T. C.
students at M. A. C. the first of next
week. The confusion has been so
great that only a few classes have
been held so r far. The medical re-
serves have had no class work what-
ever and the general program is very
irregulh Almost to a man, the stu-
dents at M. A. C. this year are mem-
bers c f the S. A. T. C. and the senior
engineering class has only three men
who are not. Two non-S. A. T. C.
men came from Lansing to Ann Arbor
to get engineering training which
they could not receive there.
No Red Cross Christmas seals will,
be sold this year, according to.Mr. W.
L: Cosper, secretary of the Michigan
Anti-Tuberculosis association, whose
office is in the Natural Science build-
ing. In place of the funds usually
raised by this yearly sale the war
council of theaAmerican Red Cross
society has apportionad $2,500,000
from its fund, to be raised, from
December 16 to 23, for anti-tubercul-
osis work in the United States. This
amount will be divided imong the state
associations, each statebeing given
the amount raised by the state last
year and an additional sum based on
the number of memberships to the
American Red Cross sold in the state
during the coming campaign.
"Michigan's apportionment will be
$55,000," Mr. Cosper said, "and if the
association works hard we should be
able to get fifteen or twenty thousand
dollars of the bonus."
Red Cross Ch.ristmas seals, while
not sold as in former years, will not be
entirely absent this Christmas season
Ten seals will be given each person
subscribing to the Red Cross Christ-
mas roll call. In addition a leaflet
on tuberculosis will be given every
person who responds.
Mr. Cosper has already received
communications from several of the
committees which handled the sale in
the different counties last year. He
is advising them that while the seals
will not be sold this year, they should
aid the local chapters of the Red Cross
in making the Christmas roll call a
success.
Communications received state that
the war council of the Red Crosstde-
cided upon this apportionment as they
did not wish to burden the public with
two campaigns which can be combin-
ed, at a time when it is being asked
to consider so many importants ap-
peals to its sympathies and resources.
WORK OF INSPECTING XMAS
PACKAGES NOT YET BEGUN
Because very few labels have been
received from the boys overseas, the
work of inspecting Christmas pack-
ages, conducted by the Red Cross, has
not yet begun in Ann Arbor, al-
though it has been going on in De-
troit, and other cities for several
days.
Mr. M. A. Ives has been appointed
chairman of the work here, and has
asked persons to obtain their boxes
from the Red Cross headquarters on
Williams street, to fill them, and leave
them for inspection as soon as possi-
ble, in order to avoid confusion later
when the rush begins. Nov. 15 is the
latest date at which parcels of this
kind may be mailed.
In Detroit women recruited from the
church Red Cross rooms are doing the
work, each one being an authorized
government employe, and acting un-
der government orders. To empha-
size the importance of the position,
the oath of office is administered in the
regular way by a federal clerk. The
work in Detroit is being done on the
second floor of the postoffice building.

to the Allied governments. The ad-
ministration was said to be well con-
vinced now that Austria already is
nearly out of the war, and that her
will for peace is simply tempered by a
natural disposition to get the best
terms possible short of unconditional
surrender.
The report that Count Andrassy, the
new Austrian premier, is about to sue
directly to Italy for peace, on the
ground that Italy is Austria's "sole
antagonist," is generally regarded as
confirmatory of this understanding of

the hopeless situation in the dual em-
pire. It was pointed out that since
Italy solemnly engaged with the oth-
er Entente powers not to make a sep-
arate peace, if Austria carried out this
plan, it naturally would be referred
by Italy to the supreme war council.

A Modern Shoe .. .
... An Old Fashion Price
If you need.shoes, there is no economy in waiting
until they cost more. If we won the war tomorrow,
leather wouldn't be plentiful for some time.
This shoe is a favorite with men of all ages. You
see, besides comfort and style, it brings with it the
Famous Walk-Over quality.
Look at its thoroughbred lines, and then take a peep
back at the price. There is economy in getting such a
boot at this price.
