Cohn is reporting regularly at the
field now, after having had a short
rest and is doing his usually stellar,
work. The big Washingtonian has a
knack of walking down an open field}
for a touchdown at most every op-
portunity, and is one of the most val-
uable assets of the team.
Preparing for Aggies
M. A. C. is coming in for its share
of preparation also. Coach Yost is
overjoyed at a definite date being 'et
for the game, at last, and with this
game, besides the Chicago contest to
work for, the two weeks of practice
before the Chicago game will prove!
valuable.
For the remainder of the football
season, there will be but two games
at home. The first will be played
with Syracuse, in three weeks. A
week after that comes the M. A. C.
contest. The Syracuse contest is also
being watched with a great deal of
interest since they are practically the
only Eastern team to invade the West
this season.
O. S. U. is to furnish the final op-
position for the Yostmen this year
and the game is to be played at Col-
umbus. The Conference chamapions
are of the opinion that they can
claim the honor again this year, de-
spite the fact that their star man,
Chick Harley is with them no longer.
However, the return of the Yostmen
to the big ten is leaving somewhat of
a doubt in the minds of the football
fans as to the outcome of an O. S. U.-'
MVichigan conteat.

SEARCHLIGHTS AT FERRYFIELD
TOO POWERFUL AT
NIGHT,
With the failure, of the powerful
searchlights placed on Ferry field, to
fulfill their mission, comes the an-
nouncement from the S. A. T. C. head-
quarters of the University that an
extension of time to the grid men in
the unit who are on the Varsity squad,
will be granted.
When the . beams of the powerful
lights were cast across Ferry field
yesterday afternoon, with the fall of
darkness, it was discovered that they
were too powerful. The rays of light'
from the battery dazzled the eyes of
the grid men, making it even worse
than without the light.
Then Capt. Ralph H. Durkee of the
S. A. T. C. and. Admiral.Berry of the
naval unit came to the sescue with tha.
announcement that they would give
the men on the squad who are in the
naval and military units early excus-.
es from drill, that he work of the
squad might. not be interrupted with.
Since the change back to the old
time, and with the one hour and a
half allotted to football practice, it
becomes dark before much practice
can be held. It is for this reason that
the military and naval commanders
are granting the privilege to the foot-
ball men.
Although the time has not been de-
finitely settled upon, it is probable
that the men wil be excused an hour
early from drill, to go direct to the

gridiron. They will be permitted to
practice through until 6 o'clock as be-
fore.
A new system of lighting the field
is going to be tried today when 30
large incandescent electric lights will
be strung over the field. Since this
light will not be as concentrated as
the rays of a searchlight, it is thought
that they will be more practical.

Steam Shovels Used to Dig Graves
New York City, Oct. 28.-So great
have been the number of deaths from
influenza and so small have been the
number of grave diggers that New
York has had to resort to a steam
shovel to dig trenches where in to
temporarily inter the victims of the
epidemic. One cemetery had 400 un-
buried bodies and had to draft city
laborers in order to prepare graves.

FRESHMEN

f Freshmen will meet at 4:30
o'clock this afternoon in the ad-
ditorium in University hall. Both
men and women are expected
to attend the meeting. It is the
duty of every loyal Michigan
freshman to attend.
