GLERLS TO GIVE CONCERT PROGRAM TO BE FOLLOWED BY D)ANCENG; "THE PIPER" TO HOLD REHE ARSAL SATURDAY The Girls' Glee club will give a concert Saturday, May 27, at 8:00 o'clock, in Sarah Caswell Angell hall, which will be followed by dancing. The program will incldde a mysterious fea- ture number which nobody can afford to miss. An instrumental number marks an effort among the girls to organize a mandolin club. The committees in charge are: Pub- licity committee, Ruby Bawden, '16, chairman, Euthymia Hildner, '17, and Bernice Borden, '18; program and dance committee, Florence Paddock, '17, chairman, Hermine Cohn, '18, and Mildred Hill, '18. Katherine Wenley, '16, is in charge of the features. Several changes have been made in the plans for the Independent Girls' club outing, which was to have been held Monday, May 22. The date has been changed to Saturday morning, May 27. The party will leave the boat- house in canoes or on foot, at 7:00 o'clock, and will meet at Cascade Glen. There will be a bonfire at the glen and breakfast will be eaten at 8:00 o'clock. All freshmen girls are wel- come as guests. Girls wishing to take the swimming' test for athletic honors should make appointments with Miss Evans at once. Tickets for the Freshman Supper must be obtained by Saturday. There will be a rehearsal of "The Piper" Saturday morning, from 9:00 o'clock to 12:00 o'clock in Sarah Cas- well Angell hall. The entire cast is expected to report, but not those tak ing part in the mob. H., state on good authority that the editor of The Dartmouth Jack-o'-Lantern has been suspended because cf his oppo- sition to a movement, pressed by the faculty, for giving credit for a sum- mer's "work in military training camps. There may be extenuating cir- cumstances, of which we have not yet learned, which would justify such an action, but on its face it looks like a misuse of authority. We have heard of similar instances in other institutions where this was true. We hardly see how such a situa- tion could arise under the Michigan system. It is the avowed policy of the board in control of student publi- cations to leave the management of the different publications entirely, to the students. They reserve as they should the final say in matters of pol- icy, and itis a great tribute to the scheme that this final authority is rarely exercised. One of Michigan's biggest assets is the tendency of the campus govern- ing boards to adopt a tolerant atti- tude toward student activities, and give ear to the student members who sit with them.
