There are still rumors of trouble, and prob- able defeats are already looming up for next year. The coaches are not miracle workers; neither are the let- ter men alone capable of lifting a squad into a championship. They need material to work on and build with. The call has gone out for spring practice. Yet only 30 men have turned out. Thirty out of a possible 3,000 are all the men on the campus willing to look ahead and give Michigan the benefit of their services in building up a winning team. Football machines today are com- plicated, highly organized things. They, are not turned out in a few weeks. It will be too late after M. A. C. has come down and handed us another wallop- ing next fall. Prayers to the4 coach to "talk to 'em" between halves will be of little avail with Penn 14 points ahead and out for blood. Coach Pontius says he wants more men. Will he get them? COUNCIL PERMITS CORSON TO OPERATE SALOON IN CITY Following the issuance of a writ of mandamus against the Ann Arbor city council, Judge Kinne of the local cir- cuit court has issued an order to that body to grant a saloon license to Wil- liam Corson of this city. Corson's ap- plication for a license was twice turn- ed down, and he took his case to the courts. In compliance with the order, which the council determined not to fight, that body met last night in spe- cial session and sanctioned Corson's right to operate a saloon. PROF.
