Henley Hill papers were bitter in their denuncia- tion of Michigan. This year there is no Vanderbilt game on our schedule, whether for this reason or some other we do not know. Saturday Michigan meets M. A. C. If the up-state supporters hold true to form the rooting will be personal. From the brand of football that M. A. C. is noted for we are in for a hard, though not necessarily "dirty" game. Both causes for the incipient muck- erism of the past week will be on hand, and it remains to be seen if Michigan can rise above them. CONCERNING COMMUNICATIONS As the official paper of the Univer- sity, The Daily will print all commu- nications of a constructive nature which are sent in. The letters, however, must be sign- ed, although the signatures will be withheld if the writer so desires. Neither may they exceed 500 words in length. This provision is made be- cause of the limited space In the pub- lication. To serve their purpose the commu- nications should be written in a con- cise style with a definite end in view, for it is in this way alone that they will interest the readers sufficiently to accomplish any good. BIL LAR DS AND BOWLING Candies Cigars Pipes I COUSINS & HALL FLORISTS MUCKERISM AND FOOTBALL A prominent member of the class of 1913, who witnessed Saturday's game, had nothing but expressions of dis- gust to offer as his comments. We agree with him. Our much vaunted Michigan spirit has certainly been wanting in the last two games on Ferry Field. The reason may not be so very hard to find. In the first place the members of the team were guilty of some rough playing. When the other team is mak- ing consistent gains through the Michigan line and around the ends we like to see the most ambitious of our opponents tackled and blocked in a manner that jars some of their enthusiasm out of them, but when the team descends to slugging, no matter for what cause, it only serves to fur- nish the necessary incentive for a certain element in the stands to be- gin the hooting and je ring that was so noticeable Saturday. Again when members of the oppos- ing team incite the bleachers with jibes it is not easy to stand quiet without some kind of reply. But to answer them accomplishes no goodI and only serves to put the University in the wrong light. Last year a la- mentable occurrence took place at the Vanderbilt game. The southern Citizens Banquet Free Press Critic In celebration of his 50th anniver- sary as dramatic critic of The Detroit Free Press, citizens of Detroit Satur- day night tendered a banquet to George P.
