Cole, of Ann Arbor, Gets $53,000 Contract, Exclusive of Heating, Plumbing and Lighting Michigan's new gym will be started immediately, according to a statement made by Secretary Shirley W: Smith last night, following the meeting of the board of regents of the university, at which time the contract for the en- largement of Michigan's athletic plant was let to Contractor A. R. Cole of Ann Arbor. The contract entails the expenditure of $53,300 for the addition to the gym, exclusive of heating, plumbing and wiring. Alaska Dog Races to Be Rn April 11 Nome, Alaska, April 6.-The ninth annual all-Alaska dog sweepstakes race, the great sport event of the north, will be run April 11 over the snow trail from Nome to Candle and return, a total distance of 412 miles, according to an announcement made yesterday by the Nome Kennel club. Because of the fact that these men were ap- pointed to serve on the board after June 1 of last year, it has been de- cided that they will continue in of- fice until May 31, 1917. CLUB TO HOLD PRACTICE MEET Rifle Men Will Stage Vacation "Shoot- Fest" at 14. N. G. Range In order to boom outdoor rifle shoot- ing, the rifle club will stage an all- day "shoot-fest" at the National Guard rifle range some time during spring vacation. There is an abundance of ammunition for outdoor shooting on hand at present and plenty of rifles. The Rifle club will be strengthened by the addition of 160 new, men who have joined the drill corps, since these men will be required to join the club in order to procure rifles granted by the government. It is to your interest to trade GEORGE AND COHN WIN TITLE Handball Players Beat Tandy and Wickett for Championship Playing a strong steady game, George and Cohn yesterday established' their claim to championship honors in the doubles of the handball tourna- ment by winning from Tandy and Wickett, runners-up in the event, to the tune of 15-6, 15-7, 9-15, 15-1. The championship was to go to the winner of three out of five games, but only four were needed to reach a verdict. The games were for the most part slow, the champs having little trouble in disposing of their oppo- nents. The winners will each receive a cup. Those who stay in Ann Arbor over the holidays will h'old daily sessions from 3:00 to 5:30 o'clock. The work during the next week will not be official, but the freshmen will be given the opportunity at this time to get in shape, and it is believed that the men who are around will be able to show a little better form at the close of the holidays than those who go away.
