TRIP SOUTH I Fears Veteran Southpaw's r to Round Into Form Coach Lundgren fears that he is go-X ing to lose the services of about the only veteran pitcher that is on the staff at the present time. With the southern trip rapidly ap- proaching, Tom Soddy continues to be an absentee and Lundgren fears that the southpaw will not be in shape to go south with the team. Scholastic' work has kept Soddy's hands full and his visits to the gym have been few and far between. Because of Soddy's persistent refusals to report, the base- ball coach has about abandoned hope of getting the portside twirler into condition for the jaunt into southern climes.' If the weather man continues to supply the particular brand of his commodity that was in evidence yes- terday, Coach Lundgren hopes to es- cort his baseball proteges down to Ferry Field next Saturday afternoon. The Michigan baseball boss is anxi- ous to turn his men loose in a real ball lot,and he will grasp the earliest opportunity. The outfielders may be shipped down to the big athletic field ahead of the rest of theusquad if a dry enough place can be found. Harrington and John Roberts are both somewhat under the weather as yet, but the coach is in hopes that they will be in shape before long. "Rummy" Roehm has been taking things easy the past few days because of an in- jured thumb, but he will be in shape within a day or so. Roehm has been handling himself in first class shape, and looks every inch a catcher. Fast- Games Start Handball Tourney The first match in the opening round of the doubles of the handball tour- nament started with a rush yesterday afternoon, Tandy and Wickett defeat- ing Broberg and Alden in three games by the score of 13-15, 15-0, 15-6. The first game was fairly even, but the I With a total entry list of 215 men,' Michigan's third annual "dub" meet proved a big success. Entries were well scattered throughout the chart, making no one event a walkaway for any of the "feed" candidates entered. After the established custom, eating prizes were given out, not according to the ability of those entered to gar- ner first places, but in accordance with the stand in each man had with Bil- liken. Prizes ranging from gum to cream puffs, and including almost everything that can be procured in baker shops, candy booths, and grocery stores, were distributed at random to the success- ful, or lucky dubs. The title of the "biggest dub" was unanimously awarded to H. E. Storz, '19, by the officials. Storz was en- tered in nine of the 15 events, and out of these he managed to break into the feed column but once, that when he annexed fourth place in the half mile run. Storz will receive a box of chocolate bon bons to feed the jinx which followed him most faithfully. The "smallest dub" was found to be J. A. Skoog, '18, who entered in two events and came out of them with a first place in each. The little cripple surprised the crowd present by chin- ning himself 31 times, and by dipping a total of 25 times, and easily won each event with his sensational perform- ances. dwieth, -Mortoln ald'Phelps.
