(The Michigander) The Michigan Daily expresses greatE satisfaction that Michigan finished third in the Indoor Intercollegiates. The satisfaction was increased by the fact that the team was of but fourteen men. Someway this attitude is not pleasing to the students of former days. As an undergraduate we sat in the bleachers at Evanston and watched Garrells, Row~e, Rlaminey, 'oe, Stuairt, H~eth and~ the rest score within one. third of a point of as many points as all the rest of the competing schools put together. The next spring we tried to "hock our watch" that we might see the Easterners served up in the same fashion. They weren't so served, but neither were we "satisfied." We appreciated the efforts of the team and the showing it had made. We recollect that very well for the at- tendant bon '.re cost one landlady we know of a porch chair that was cover- ed -with sticky paint, a.nd cost us a pair of trousers, burned past all re- pair. We tried to be good losers, but we knew we had lost and we wanted first the next time. Satisfaction with partial successes never took a school, or a man, to the top. Michigan is a big school. She has more than fourteen eligible students. If no more were taken because of financial reasons, we believe that a mistake was made. Athletes are more valuable to Michigan athletics than stadiums, It is a Michigan principle that men and ideas stand before build- ings. If. as is much more probable, only fourteen men were taken because no more had demonstrated sufficient ability, then the number should not be used as an alibi, What is needed is more and better athletes, and to secure them Michigan's pulse must be quick- ened. . , 1' ENGINEERSi!
