ROOSEVELT GUEST OF HONOR AT
GATrHERING ON COLUMBUS DAY
Colonel Says That Nothing Is Worse
'han Oratory Which Does
Not Meani Action
New York, Oct. 12.--Theodore
Roosevelt was the guest of honor at
a meeting held here today by the
Knights of Colu.mbus in celebration of
Columbus Day. Nothing was left un-
said or undone by the knights to show
their esteem of the colonel.
In his address, the colonel was in-
clined to be gay and facetious. He
said that if there was anything to be
abhorred, it was- oratory that doesn't
mean action. "If in 1776 and 1861,"
he said, "there were as many people
as there are today to sing, I didn't
raise my boy to be a soldier," there
would not be as many people alive to-
day as there are now."
The hall was filled to its utmost ca-
pacity, and more than~ 1,000 were
turned away by the police.

"In & hurry?" Call Stark, 2255.
