Boys of college age are ideal- ists and hero worshippers. College teachers have ceased to be the ideals of the students. Modern college en- vironmnents tend to give the student a false perspective and distorted ideas of relationship. One of the greatest 1weaknesses of the modern college is the tendency to develop habits of in- dolence. Students gain false ideas of leadership. The most agonizing thought for the parents of Harold Korn was to know that he remained alive in the water for thirty-five min- 'htes, and yet circumstances were such that he could not be saved. That was the real horror of the situation, and the installation of safeguards is a di- rect step toward the prevention of such things in the future. Already organizations .have taken positive action. The Council has ap- pointed a committee to work with the city, authorities. and the Pastern Michi- gan. Edison company in an effort to devise ways and means for meeting the problem. The Triangles have al- ready put themselves down for a life preserver. Seven other societies were to take the question up this week. WVith the initial inertia overcome, all that is necessary is some organi- zation to, take the leadership and see that the ;momentum doesn't die down. There is an old society-on the campus wvhich has been revived from several years, of lethargy and begun to do things. It pushed the Goodfellow novemnt to a successful conclusion. We would like to see themr try their ht nds. at this. RANTS MORE FOUNTAINS indeed evils and that in all colleges they exist. "We are, however, will- ing to believe," says the Boston Dailyl Herald, "that the advantages outnum-1 ber the evils of college life and. that it is still worth while."
