Towers, '10-'12L, editor of the American Boy, Detroit, will speak before students in journalism at 4:00 o'clock next Tuesday afternoon January 18, in room 202, West hall.. Mr. Towers, while a student in the university, was managing editor of The Michigan Daily 1911-13, and oth- erwise prominent in student affairs. Upon graduation he went at once to Detroit where he assumed the posi- tion of assistant editor of the Amer- ican Boy. A year later he was pro- moted, and since that time has re- mained in charge of this publication. In addition to his editorial duties, Mr. Towers has contributed to various, young people's magazines, and has written a successful book on boys' athletics. Mr. Towers will talk on some phase of journalism as applied to the maga- zine. All those interested in this line of work are invited to attend the lecture. DR. C. Kingsley, president of the New York Life Insurance com- pany, a speaker of national reputa- tion, will lecture on the general sub- ject of "Preparedness" in Hill Audi- torium on Monday evening, February 14, under the auspices of the Ann Arbor branch of the National Secur- ity League. This is the first of a series of free lectures upon this sub- ject, during which, the branch hopes to present Rear Admiral Robert E. Perry, and Henry A. Wise Wood, the New York inventor and editor. At a meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of New York City recently Mr. Kingsley spoke on, "Democracy vs. Sovereignity," bringing forth points of such interest that the speech has been widely printed in the press throughout the country. It has not yet been decided whether Mr. Kings- ley will give this speech in Ann Ar- bor, or prepare a new one for the occasion. The speaker comes here from Chi- cago, where he is scheduled to appear upon Lincoln's Birthday for a lec- ture upon "Preparedness." During his stay in Ann Arbor he will be the guest of either George Millen, presi- dent of the Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank, or of Major Charles A.
