Adams, of the engi- neering college, delivered the second of the Cerele ra ais lectures Tues-! day afternoon in Tappan hall. The subject of the lecture was, "The Literature of the South of rance." Dr. Adams sketched the history of this litgature which was written in the Provencal tongue by the early trouba- dors, or traveling poets. In an analy- sis of the form and subject matter e called attention to its artificiality. Form rather than theme was the chief interest of these singers. In coijlusion, the life and work of Frederic Mistral, whose fine verse in the Provencal tongue has called at- tention to this literature, was review- ed and eulogized.
