AAwards Based on Ability In awarding these appointments the committee was guided by the tradi- tional policy of rewarding those who have done good work in the past and also of giving to those who have pos- sibilities of making good in the future. The whole Opera system is based, how. ever, upon the gradual working into positions of the men by progression from committee tocommittee through- out the different years. The commit- tees that have been selected do not comprise all of those to be named and the remaining committees will be an- cu'nced at a later date. Theron D. Weaver, '16E, general chairman of this year's Opera, stated last night that all of the work on the Opera is progressing smoothly and that the ntire ma Iagement is confi- dent that this year's Opera will sur- pass the productions of the past both in lyrics and theme. The lyrics for the Opera were written by W. A. P. John, '16. First Tryouts to Come Sooe The first tryouts will be held in the near future and all those wishing to take cast parts in the Opera are urged to make some preparation for pres- entation before the committee who will be the judges of that tryout. The book this year calls for more import- ant female roles than in former years, and it is hoped that any talent along these lines will be present at the try- outs. The judges for the tryouts will be selected from those men of the faculty and student body who are best qual- ifiedrto judge singing, acting, stage presence, upon which particular stress will be placed. The committee for judging the musical contributions will be announced within the next few days. Eligibility is also a big factor in the selection of candidates, and all men -Oho desire to tryout should see that they are in good standing. Fresh- men are ineligible, unless their talent should be of such character as would be unable to be secured among the other classes.
