The women complain that there is no room on The Daily for them, but we beg to differ. An old Michigan tradi-- tion, to the effect that the "Co-ed" is not welcome on our campus, has spread abroad over the land, but in later years the truth has left that old saying, and it now rings hollow to our ears. Women at Michigan have fought against big odds and won. When they start a thing -we are firm in our belief that they will finish it. In former years The Daily has been the sufferer because the women have left it so utterly alone. All we ask is cooperation. Aren't there women on the campus that this appeals to? THE MODERN SPUR As a speedy and effectual way of whipping lethargic fraternities and house-clubs into line nothing has so far been found to surpass the scholar- ship charts worked out by PROF. .A. G. HALL. They brought forth red-hot sarcasms from formerly indulgent %lumni and in two short years per- ceptibly quickened the scholastic pace of -the undergraduates. It is a big Start in the right direction. Like the ideal reformer it accomplished its purpose without threat or bluster, and xe have high hopes of finding another PROFESSOR HALL to applyuthe same principle to some of our other troubles. THE TIME AND THE PLACE Tonight the Student Council has planned a monster mass-meeting for freshmen. The new men will be told the right and wrong of their univer- sity life to be. It is hoped the lesson will be driven home, but it won't be if they are met after the meeting by a crowd of sophomores who have for- gotten the lessons of their own fresh- man year. House of Representatives Opens Year Adelphi House of Representatives will hold its first meeting at 7:30 o'clock next Tuesday evening in its room on the fourth floor of University hall. W. C. Hall, '16, speaker of the house, will preside. Visitors are cor- dially invited to attend all the meet- ings this year. LIBRARIAN REPORTED IMPROVED Position Held Temporarily by Former Library of Congress Man Librarian Theo. W. Koch, who was granted a leave of absence soon after the close of the summer session be- cause of illness, is reported to be im- proving. Mr. W. W. Bishop, who was formerly in charge of the circulation department of the Library of Con- gress reading room, is taking Mr. Koch's place at present. The library will be open from 7:45 o'clock in the morning until 10:00 o'clock at night. The circulation department will be open from 8:00 until 12:00 o'clock in the morning and from 1 :00 until 5 :00 in the afternoon." Northwesters Make Semester Plans Officers of the Northwestern club, an organization of students from Washington, Idaho and Oregon, met last night at the Union and outlined the plans of the club for the coming semester. A general meeting will be held next Thursday at the Union when fresh- men from the far northwest will be taken in. A dinner and dance will be arranged for later. The officers of the Northwestern club are: President, Albert Schrimpf, '16L; vice-president, Harold Kahn, '17D; secretary, N. J. Brazell, '18E, and treasurer, Keith Ferguson, '16L. Police to Enforce Dog Muzzling Law Chief of Police Frank Pardon has declared war on all unmuzzled can- ines in the city. Because of the num- erous complaints coming into his office, especially from the university district, he calls special attention to the ordinance which provides that all dogs within the city limits must be muzzled, whether led by tether or -al- lowed to run loose. DEAN JRANHSTESS TO FIRSTYEAR WOMEN i , TRADITIONAL SUPPER WILL BE. GIVEN BY JUNIOR ADVISORS IN GYM FOLLOWING ANNUAL PARTY The annual party, given by Dean Myra B. Jordan in honor of the fresh- men women, will be held' in Barbour Gymnasium this afternogn at 4:00 o'clock. It will be followed by the traditional supper given by the junior advisors. Juniors will not take the freshmen, but will meet at the gym at 5:30 o'clock. Freshmen will wear cards upon which will be their names, and below, the names of their advis- ors. At the party the 1915-16 student activity charts will be distributed by Frances Way, '17, point system chair- man. * * * VI CTOR S MICHIGAN'S FAVORITE SONGS FOR College Men AT Univcrst 2 !flusic lboge Cor.
