Maloney Aeferee--Frank Murphy. Umpire--Elmer Mitchell. Time of quarters, 15 minutes. Game called at 1:30 o'clock. Coach Douglass will send a confident aggregation of pigskin tossers against the University of Detroit this after- noon. While a spirit of victory per- vades every member of the freshmen, they are looking for no easy opposi- tion at the hands of Costello's hope- fuls. All the regular yearling combination, with the possible exceptions of Wil- liams, Towsley and Eggert, are booked as certain starters. The first two may be in the lineup when the whistle begins the contest, but neither is ex- pected to last through the struggle. "Jeff" Reekie will start at Eggert's vacant place, as the coach wishes to save the Youngstown boy as much as possible. Costello has had his men hard at HARRIS, TACKLE AN) CAPTAIN OF QUAKERS work all week in an attempt to per- fect a defense against the fast-running All-Fresh backs, and has also mus- tered a brand new set of plays for this particular occasion. The way the boys have mastered these plays makes the coach fveel that his men will put up the stiffest sort of an argument against the heavier Wolverine freshmen. The contest will start at 1:30 o'clock, which is the same time as the Mich- igan-Pennsylvania game at Philadel- phia. Reports from Franklin field will be read to the stands during the prog- ress of the game. TO HOLD ELIMINATION MATCH FORTRACK TEAM Expect Varsity to Make Good Showing at Eastern Intercollegiate Meet Next Week In preparation for the Eastern In- tercollegiate meet to be held a week from today at Franklin, Mass., Mich- igan cross-country runners will meet this afternoon at Ferry field for the elimination match. The six men cross- ing the tape first will compose the team. Michigan has one of the best teams in her history this year and an All- Fresh team that is developing some fine Varsity material. Sporting pages have not given much space to cross- country running this fall, so predic- tions as to the winning western teams cannot be made. Of the eastern teams' competing, Princeton is easily the fa- vorite. All men who have done any cross- country running at all should report for the elimination math this after-' noon, as handicaps will be made, giv- ing everyone an equal chance. The' six high men will be placed at scratch and the others arranged according to their ability. The race will commence between the halves of the All-Fresh- University of Detroit game. The outcome of the race will large- ly determine who will receive their "C. C. C.'s" for this branch of fall sports. First and second place men will receive cups as a reward for their1 efforts, and to the three men making the best time in the contest, another set of cups will be given. - NEW RIFLES HERE FOR GUN CLUB Mau With Highest Score to Have the Choice of Any Rifle Six new rifles arriving this week swelled the total number of guns avail- able for the use of members of the) Rifle club to 10, and with two govern- ment rifles on their way the shooters should not have to wait in line for their turn at the butts. The addition of several more rifles will be made later on" in the year, these guns to be for the exclusive use of the members of the team. A series of shoots will be held, to be run off at the same interval and under the same conditions, except those of eligibility, as the intercolle- giate matches. At the end of the year the member of the club whose official score, as registered in the different shoots, is the highest will receive his choice of the rifles in the club's pos- session. The most threatening situa- tions in the game were those during which attempts at field goals were made from the 45-yard line, and none of these came close enough to scoring to cause either side any fear lest the tie be broken. (Cork and C'artwright did some good work for the freshman aggregation, the left half being fast on the field, and the latter, the fullback, being a strong man through the line on of- fense, and particularly noticeable in defense for the manner in which he picked off interference. Taylor gets all the glory for the juniors, being the man who tried their field goals, as well as the person who kept the fresh- men in their place with his long punts. In preparation for their game with the soph lits, the junior lits were down on the field yesterday taking a long workout, with emphasis on drop-kick- ing and punting. The winner of to- day's game will be the team to survive the final elimination, and will get a last swipe at the numerals. The senior laws ran through an un- satisfactory practice, fumbles and fail- ure to remember signals being the chief drawback to the smooth running of their squad. The lawyers have a heavy line, however, and with this ad- vantage may be able to push a victory over on the senior lits in this morn- ing's game. The following games are scheduled to start on south Ferry field at 9:00 o'clock this morning: Dents vs. senior engineers, senior laws vs. senior lits, soph lits vs. junior lits. The referees for the games will be Armstrong, Raynsford and Dorrance, respectively. LEFT END HOPKINS. OF1 THIE PENN ELEVEN IFOOTBALL J a cksonH. S. vs. Ann Arbor H. S.
