NEED TEN MORE ENTRIES
FOR PENTAHLON MEET
More Men Required to Make Event a
Success; Will Be Held
Anyway
At least ten more entries are needed
to make the Pentathlon, scheduled for
3:15 o'clock this afternoon, a success.
The event will be held regardless of
the number of entries, as this is the
last date open on Ferry field before
examinations start. If any entrants in
the meet find it impossible to be on
the field at 3:15 o'clock, they may
enter up as late as 3:45 o'clock.
The gold watch offered as a prize to
the winner of the Pentathlon, and the
chance of developing track talent
which this event offers, should draw
a good sized crowd of track athletes
to the field.

i tihe Trip
MEN WILL NOT RUN OFFICIALLY
Several members of the Michigan
Varsity track squad have resumed
training this week to participate in
the Toledo Municipal field day which
comes a week from Saturday.,
Captain Harold Smith, Captain-elect
"Eddie" Carroll, Ufer, Fox, Fontanna
and Donnelly expect to make the trip.
Coach "Steve" Farrell was starter at
this event last year, and "Steve" as-
serts that it is one of the biggest track
meets of its kind yin the country. Last
year the attendance was- over 15,000
and 200 men competed.
With Captain Smith running the
dashes, Fox, Ufer, Carroll, Donnelly
and possibly Murphy entering the mid-
dle distance events, and Fontanna in
the quarter, the Michigan track men
should create considerable impression.
The team will not run as the Univer-
sity of Michigan track team, as this
is not a regularly scheduled meet.
Murphy may go, and if he does there
is a possibility that Michigan will en-
ter a one-mile relay team. Even though
"Cap" Murphy does not make the trip,,
the local men might compete in the
relay, as "Hal" Smith may take a
iling at the 440. Cups are offered the
winners, and gold, silver and bronze
medals will be awarded first, second
and third place.
JUNIOR LITS TROUNCE JUNIOR
DENTS IN LISTLESS GAME'
In a relentless determination to
cheat the weather man out of imposing
another postponement upon them, the
junior dents and lits engaged in one
of the merriest mud scrambles of the
year. The lits won 7 to 6.
All the breaks seemed to favor the
lits up to the fourth inning, the latter
piling up a heavy lead of six runs over
the dents' lone tally. The dents gave
the lits the scare of their lives in this
frame by running the count up to
within one point of the latters' score.
They again threatened in the fifth, by
geting their lead-off man as far as
second, with none out, but the next
two men flied out and the last one hit
into a double play. The lits are tied
with the junior engineers for the cam-

GIVES CROSS-COUNTRY TROPHY'
C. L. Harpham of Boston, Former In-
structor, Presents Plaque
The athletic office is just in re-
ceipt of a handsome new trophy which
is to be devoted to the stimulation of
cross-country running.
The trophy is in the form of a large
plaque, and was presented by C. L.
Harpham, an old-time Michigan cross-
country enthusiast. Mr. Harpham,

while in the university, was a student
of economics and taught this subject
here for several years after his gradu-
ation. He is now connected with the
firm of Harpham, Barnes, Stevenson
and Coe, Inc., business economists and
production engineers. All of Mr. Harp-
ham's partners are Michigan men,
with the exception of Stevenson, Mr.
Coe being the famous "Spider" Coe.
The trophy is of gold bronze,
mounted on a solid mahogany back-
ground. The engraving is very hand-
