DETROIT TIMES EDITO
TALS TO JOURNALIST'S
Frank Brigh~zt pjeakls to Ci se.{ tenz
Positive Rules for j5uuce!ss
as Reporter:
"Don't drink, don't be a fu s~l'mnd
for heaven's sake be accurate." Te~
are the three positive rules to. -
porters, according to Frank Brig,-t,
managing editor of the Detroit Tui:
who spoke yesterday under the ai-
pices of the journalism departing it of
the university.
In telling young reporters how to
get a job and keep it, Tar. Birigit
evolved a philosopky of his own. Ie
thinks iitiative is in a class withi
itself The nian who hangs aroand' a
city editor's desk and hopes, to keoen
his copy from being cut thereby, never
stands a chance with the mvan who
picks up-his coat fromt off the peg and
starts out to "cover an assignment
without a word.
A sense of value in news is also
invaluable but this comies with ex-
perience. The honest mlan who works
earnestly and faithfully is the mlan
who gets the better position in pref-
erence to the mnan who shines in some
places and fails miserably the rest of
the time.

At the Majestic
When D. W. Griffith produced "The!
Avenging Conscience," be was herald-
ed as the greatest motion picture pro-
ducer of the day. His "Birth of a
Nation" will never be equalled in
years.. "The Avenging Conscience,"
which is at the Majestic today, is an-
other one of the gripping plays that
teaches a good lesson.
The play is taken from the famous
story of Edgar Allan Poe, "The Tell-
Tale Heart," and was suggested by the
famous poem "Annabel Lee."
