Thompson A BOOM FOR THE CINDER PATH Track, of all the. sports at Mici- ganl, is the heaviest sufferer by reason of our peculiar athletic situation. It is a sport which does not earn its own keep. For this reason it is unable to make -long or, frequent trips, and the schedule suffers as a result. Meagre and mediocre competition is small incentive for men to get out and go-through the stiff course of training necessary to put them into first class condition. And this is something that cannot be-remedied without some fun- damental changes in our athletic rela- tions. The solution of the problem is a difficult one, and has bothered the board in control for quite a while. .Their recent action, however, of al- lowing 15 men to -make the thp to the intercollegiates may tend to aid. in overcoming this handicap. It will furnish the men, who have faith enough to see the track team through its lean years, some incentive for their work, to say nothing of a world of valuable experience.
