Speaking of danger from fire in Ann Arbor, the committee on student at'- fairs says, in the last number of the Alumnus: "T hat so far there has been no loss of life would seem to be only good fortune. One does not need: to be an alarmist to expect that under 1 resent conditions such loss may come in shocking measure, at any time. When, as in many instances, the mem- bers of a house-club all sleep in the upper story of a frame house with a narrow stair-case and no other means of escape, the possibilities of disaster are obvious." When one recalls the Delta Chi and .Women's League house. fires this °year, both of which might have gone' to the limit if they had started at night, the immediacy of the risk is apparent. Every season there 'are a number of fires. Good sense, and honest effort on~ the part of faculty committeemen and students, already set in motion, is staving off something serious. Com- menidation is due to persons -w]7#, see and act before some frightful. tragedy has actually gotten in its work. Student Worliers (set Jiohs at Union Working students have been fur- nished with about 25 odd jobs and two or three positions of steady em- ployment during the past week at the Michigan Union employment bureau. Dnearth of students wishing work, however, has proved the, main draw- back. A' new system of statistics keeping has been prepared for the Union labor, department and may be put into use at some near date. ex- I PHONE 1"13" FOR NOTICE At :ts May meeting the Board in Control ,of Student Publications will choose a business manager and man- aging editor for The Michigan Daily and the Gargoyle, respectively.
