Go to Detroit or Chicago even now, and some person may come up and sympathize with you for having to attend such a fast university. He will have plenty of incidents to bear out his statement, too, It is a mystery where these come from. As far as most fraternity men know, or will admit, the house party is now conducted in a wholesome man- ner. Most of the wild stories origi- nate in the minds of those who don't know. And yet the report .of the committee on student affairs, printed in the cast Alumnus, holds up the house party as a chief point of difficulty in connec- tion with the Hop. This is more or less of a revelation. It seems that three fraternities went against the expressed desire of the faculty, and the guests stayed up all night after coming home from the Hop. This was unfortunate, and it should be men- tioned now, even if the criticism is belated. The house party will be a lasting and pleasurable institution if it is not brought into itsold disrepute by those who abuse it. "The Trojan Women" Those who witnessed the perform- ance of "The Trojan Women," by the Little Theater company of Chicago, at the Whitney last night, were thorough- ly convinced of the futility of war and the despair of the wives, mothers and children of those stricken in such a catastrophe. Splendid acting, elabor- ate scenery and a wonderful lighting effect made the presentation of this old Attic tragedy a most remarkable one. Griefstricken voices carried the strange music of the old world into the new. "It was a real pleasure to play be- fore such an intelligent and appreci- ative audience," said members of the cast last night. "There was a total absence of that coldness, which we often meet with. In such an environ- ment we are better able to portray the drama in all its beauty. "We intend to stay with the Little Theater company as long as it exists, for we are studying art for art's sake, and not for any material reward." The salary paid the members of the cast is only sufficient to meet their ordinary living expenses. From here the company will make a tour of the big eastern cities, before going to San Francisco, where they will appear at the Panama Exposition. CARROLL SAYS CROSS COUNTRY SQUA MUST DO SPRING WORK Captain "Eddie" Carroll of the Cross Country squad, has ordered all men contemplating entering this branch of athletics next fall, to take up some line of spring sports.- Carroll stated that he believed ev- eryone who intended to try for the C. C. C. team next fall should take up track, baseball or some one of the other spring activities. He has or- dered the men to report to Intramural Director Rowe to secure lockers at Ferry field.
