Night Editor-James M. Barrett. CANOEING, IN AND OUT. The first warm Sunday saw a half dozen 'persons or more tipped over in canoes. Nobody was drowned. So men go on taking out girls who can't swim and who won't sit still. And men who can't swim go on changing places in the middle of the river. It is dismal bus- iness to make predictions. It is even more disheartening to think that peo- ple will not be careful until the annual drowning tragedy has occurred. Per- Iaps the one who might otherwise have rocked a cance for fun a week or so hence, will see these words; and per- haps there will be no sorrowful black head-lines, mourning friends and heart broken parents this spring. The tame little Huron river, which can be crossed without wetting -the knees at places, is more dangerous than. it looks. The "bend by the old mill, just beyond the railroad bridge, and the part around the new power house, further up, are most treacher- ous. Lots of students get their first experience in canoeing on the Huron. The safe way is for those who can't swim to stay on shore. The next best way is for all to use care. For the man who came back with one clean collar, a coat coversa mul- titude of spots. Even the most sophisticated hand it to him who doesn't ask if you had a good time. Those who begin to figure early re- memler that there are only two more checks. Heavy debate whether to get a five- suit ticket or a six-ride taxi book. Theses usually come on in the night and leave early the next day. Pay your soda checks now; your room-rent almost any time. Remember, only 33 days more of these recitations. Write and tell 'em you had a good time anyway. -I IMajestic Theater Manager Butterfield of the Majestic theater has started his summer season of high grade photoplays at the May- nard street playhouse. Three perform- ances will be given daily, at 3:00, 7:30 and 9:00 o'clock. Garrick Theater "The White Feather," a stirring mel- odramatic comedy with countless -thrills is the attraction at the Garrick theater, Detroit, this week. The play uses the present war for a background, and though there are many points of great tension, there is an ample supply of humor to relieve too much of a strain on the audience.
